I think there's a name for the cathedral that I can never remember. I just refer it as Duomo :)

If you can, rent a car and drive the Tuscany region. Plenty of lovely wine and food. Specially love the florentina steak (Bistecca alla Fioentina) at Montepulciano.

intend to do a day trip to Pisa from Florence.
looking at the map, i see that there is Pisa Centrale & Pisa S.Rossore station.

i'm thinking of doing Florence to Pisa S.Rossore head to the attractions and walk downwards to Pisa Centrale for the train back to Florence.

anyone been there can comment on this?

I arrived and left at the S.Rossore station cause it was nearer.

but I dont think it's a problem to walk down. Maybe it'll take about 25mins? I can't rmb many sights, cause it was the dead of the night when I loitered outside the leaning tower area, just alot of bars though.

thanks for the tip. will consider it.
another question, i heard that tickets from florence to pisa do not have to be purchased way in advance. you can probably get the tickets over the counter on the day itself.

how true is this?

True. Those are regional trains. Very frequent, and hardly packed.

Is it safe to carry large luggages around 20Kg each on board those trains or do you need to stay awake all the time to monitor?

Can buy anytime from counter or machine.

fyi to all. i saw on raileurope that the tickets for florence to pisa (return) are actually open tickets so i guess its fine to buy online as long as you travel on that day itself.
