Patient insured on Plan A (no rider) diagnose with cancer, can the patient claim the following under chemotherapy (S$3500/mth) when receiving cancer treatment in hospital?

1)consultation fees,
2)medicine due to side effect from chemo,
3)CT scan,
4)blood test

The S$3500 not just cover chemotherapy medicine treatment right? If exceed, can use Medisave to cover?

Thanks in advance.

Can but insured needs to bear deductible and co insurance if no rider.

For clarification purpose, deductible does not apply for chemotherapy treatment.

So you mean S$3500 still need to co-pay without rider?

Is it 10% of S$3500 that the insured needs to fork out?

Can the patient use medisave to pay the 10%?

Have to check the breakdown before each treatment to see if it's covered. If I'm not wrong, some medication, consultations are not covered by this plan.

Can confirm deductible does not apply to chemo?

As I understand, we need to bear the first $X of the total bill amount as deductible. Deductible also depending on the policy year i.e. you may bear deductible on today's bill and deductible again on the next bill if that cross into another policy year.

Bill amount in excess of $X, insured will bear X% as co-insurance.

Any item in the bill that exceeds the limit, the excess will be excluded and the insured need to bear this excess.

If insurance compensation is not enough to cover the bill amount, insured can draw on his medisave. But there is a limit of $X per day or some amount depending on the treatment.

Thanks bro.

So all treatment related to cancer is claimable?

Cause blood test and CT scan are commonly and always require for treatment. It's not cheap.

Refer to your policy. There is a limit on each treatment. Any amount above the limit will not be covered by insurance and you have bear the excess. Any amount within the limit, you co-insure.

Hi Henry

Chemotherapy does not require deductible to be applied. Deductible is only applicable for inpatient/day surgery for incomeshield. Hope this clarifies your doubts. Therefore, only co-insurance is relevant.

This itself, really depends on the insurer. If you read up on the meaning of Chemotherapy, it actually refers directly to the drug itself. Therefore, it does not necessary mean that they will pay you for all the blood test and CT scan.

In this case, it is always good to refer to the policy wordings which can then help support the basis of your claim.

Why dun u call INCOME's hotline or email to their helpdesk? Helpdesk will then refer to the dept responsible to help u. They are very helpful and will explain to u.

Are u asking about post hospitalisation claim? Incomeshield covers 90 days after discharge. Most bills can claim, I know some cannot, like walking aids for my case.

Ask INCOME is the best.

Info for all. Even if you have medishield you may still pay quite a sum, if you don't have rider. I paid $47,002 and could only recover $26,228 under medishield plan A.

wah, so it is better to have rider than have an expensive plan?

I have a cheaper enhanced incomeshield plan (B2 ward) with rider which covers 100%. I stayed in C ward, hospital bill is cheaper, I get cashback, which helps to cover my walking aid expenses which are not covered, lucky.

What happened? Did you stay in a private hospital instead?

High bill.
No wonder my premium and rider are increasing in leaps and bounds :(

the fact is that, there are no regulations in singapore to govern the charges from private hospital.

unless you really see the need to seek medical treatment in private hospitals/specialists, getting a shield plan covering you up to restructured A ward is good enough.
