I am sure Pritam will be very careful not to be seen to be irrationally pro-CECA, but I think he is rational and will consider that CECA is good for Singapore because it does contribute to our GDP and open doors for Indian Singaporeans...or in fact, any Singaporean since you can speak English there if you want to do business in India.
To be fair, no Indian Singaporean complained when we joined China's various initiatives like BRI aka OBOR and RCEP.
Singapore collaborates with any country which benefits us, and if it is CECA then so be it. We will naturally see more Indians, but when we collaborate with China, we also see more Chinese but because they look like the 75% majority ethnic group, we do not realise it. In fact, a lot of new citizens come from China, and I personally know a few of them.
With PM Lee offering Pritam access to resources, I think Pritam will be able to form a shadow Cabinet. No reason why he can't. If his forte is not Econs, he has Jamus. LKY was a lawyer and he had Goh Keng Swee. Pritam and Jamus are a similar team. I won't be surprised Pritam will become Singapore's Prime Minister ten years from today...or a little bit longer, but he will be. By repeatedly asking Thaman to be the next PM, have we not shown that we are now ready for a PM from any ethnic group?
