Install Windows XP in AHCI

Presently all my rigs are install in IDE not AHCI . i understood if AHCI , my SSD and HDD will perform better but every time i set AHCI sure reset on itself for XP.
i remember a decade ago , during installtion click f6 and access our 1.44mb floppy disk for drivers but now where got ple use floppy disk sia.

so is there any other way? i still want XP with dual boot win 7 cos some apps using xp is still better...

Running Windows 7 with VMware for XP sounds better.

You can still buy USB flobby drive around, about $10 to $20.

That being the case, u can consider slipstreaming the AHCI drivers into the Windows XP cd image and burn on to a disc. Or u can also slipstream the AHCI drivers into the Windows XP cd image and convert to USB drive image.

nah....vmware cannot play game also.....

some of my games i still play in xp rather in 7....

i even play rtk2 yesterday on it lolz.....

no issue in running XP on vmware to play games. Vmware support directs 9. You will be,surprise even some modern games like COD, battlefield 2 can be played on vmware. needless to say, you can also play older DOS game on vmware

cannot copy from win xp cd cos no such file in xp....

now reinstalling xp again after that 7

I have done slipstreaming for windows xp (only switched to windows 7 recently). It takes time and patience. Firstly, you have to select the right drivers to "pre-integrate" the drivers into the windows xp setup. (You can also put in the latest service packs to save you the trouble of installing it in future). When it's done, you just take the disc image and burn it into a CD. That will work until you change your motherboard (in that case, you'll need a different set of drivers)

Trick is getting the correct & exact driver needed for your board. That's the tricky part. And I've done that with Intel & nvidia(used to produce motherboard chipsets) boards. Both company are not exactly crystal clear on which driver is to pair with which chipsets & which versions of windows. Few trial & error & couple of coaster CD before I got it right & once you change the board, it's dejavu.

And for that kind of hazzle & should you die die insist on using XP, you are better off buying a USB floppy drive & a single floppy disc, that still works wonder. Point is that, do you want to spend such effort & that S$10 for the floppy drive for a Windows XP which has less than 6 months of support life?

Can use CDRW/DVDRW disc to do the trail & error and avoid creating coasters.

How to Slipstream Your SATA Drivers Into a Windows XP Installation CD Using nLite

You can manually switch to AHCI mode after WinXP installation. provided you know how to manually update driver in device manager.

Default MS storage controller with IDE mode usually is -- IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

To update to latest intel AHCI driver, you need to download it from intel site: Intel® Chipset Device Software (INF Update Utility).

Download both exe and zip files, run the exe file and let it update all intel devices found on your motherboard. Reboot and enter BIOS to switch to AHCI mode. If XP booted, congrats, if not you can just reset and enter BIOS to switch it back.

If above fail, extract the zip files to a folder. All XP drivers are found under \All. previous intel inf had all SATA drivers pack in iastor.sys with iastor.inf Setup Information file. the latest intel inf had them separately under code name, see List of Intel Chipset. follow the driver update instruction above and update all IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. reboot and switch to AHCI.

This is what I had been doing for the pass few years, always work for me. to be caution, remember to enable System restore so you can recover if anything goes wrong.

Yes, the USB floppy wun work.

Anyway, I'm not sure whether Windows XP can be installed from a USB drive just like for Windows 7 and 8. If possible, then it's another option to consider and avoid burning to optical discs.

1) Find the AHCI drivers (Normally called Intel IRT drivers
or Storage matrix drivers for older motherboards.)

2) Download Nlite from here. Slipstream the downloaded drivers
into the windows xp.

It's actually very simple but finding the right driver
can be troublesome.

You have to disable the onboard floppy drive port, then your usb floppy will be A. That's shows I am not bluffing you when I said I did that before.
