Agoda lately not as competitive anymore, i was charged 5-8% more on exchange rate and still got charged DCC for the transaction. Wont be using them again in the future, many better options
Agoda you used the paylater feature is it? That one got layers of hidden fees one. Just pay upfront for those with free cancellation. The refund process if you need to cancel is very easy n fast one.

yup, got fooled. what i don't understand is the actual rate when i booked was higher than the time payment was made, but it ended up with me being charged more. i complained but they're ignorant on my point of argument. decided to just pay and probably use other providers in the future. what you said is right, too many hidden layers and they're not transparent enough

darn...hotel cancellation on Agoda cost me a S$6 loss...
booked hotel at 1600rmb, but cancelled;
charge S$304, but payment reversed at only S$298
shouldnt it be a $ for $ reversal ?

Goes by the exchange rates at the point of transaction. Both have different rates.

Crap. Maybe I will submit a ticket to Citibank but this should be more of a instarem problem though.

Shouldnt instarem void earlier transaction?

I had a similar issue with my HSBC card but with no Amaze card involved when I got a refund of an overseas transaction. After chatting with customer service, HSBC waived and refunded the bank markup part (2.25%) of the FCY transaction fee but couldn't waive the payment network part (1% for Visa).

That really sucks.
Cannot be $6 diff if they use the same rate.
Guess they are using diff rate even in the same day:
Sgd -> cny
cny -> sgd

they won't void, hence that's something you have to consider for Instarem. you'll be charged the spread twice

Ya. Quite screwed. Now I am thinking twice about using both agoda and also using amaze for booking where there are high chances of cancellation. They spread us too wide, only within a few days and $6 diff. (About S$300 transaction)

If the exchange rate is to your advantage, will you promptly return money to Instarem?

Don't think it will be advantage to consumer. The exchange rate in both directions is diff.

exchange fluctuates, especially with a longer period.

I have a number of transactions with refund exchange rate to my benefit.
