Although Instarem is more expansive as shown but there are 2 things that you should consider

1. Instarem you get additional cc rewards that youtrip don’t
2. should your purchase be > $10 , they give you 1% cashback so net net = the same rate?

not to mention Instarem can tag to CC , youtrip you still must topup (additional work)

Stupid when I need this card the most, it just don't work even once. Morning till night everytime I try Amaze, all rejected. "We're writing to let you know that your transaction of KRW 2,000 at SSIYU(CU) IN was declined due to our security and risk policy." 12 different transactions all rejected.

I'm surprised Korea is totally cannot mobile contactless kind, they're super reliant on MST card technology still. given I kept thinking Korea is super advanced nation I went there with my Samsung Pay cards, Amaze and Revolut. Samsung pay can't even tap without MST unless I bring my older phone models. Only Revolut saved my day at the end.

Could be due to whitelisting of approved MCC for Amaze. This is what someone shared on milelion telegram.

That explains partly. They are being silly really, cos especially overseas the way merchants code their MCC isn't as well categorised as accurately especially in Japan. My PCR test and my convenient store drink restaurant all cannot use. Used revolut instead and using cash instead on coming weekend.

YouTrip can topup via Grab/UOB amex for 1.7% rebate.

I prefer to have limited liability for overseas transactions, so I will just top up like $500 to last me a few days in Vietnam. Instarem’s liability is theoretically my CC limit… haha

Crazy that so much Airlines and hotels are being barred from using Amaze.. A travel card cant be used for travel transactions?

limited liability as in get stolen or unauthorised use? I would think that CC have much better protection then debit?

the only issue with youtrip (correct me if I’m wrong) once you topup the money cannot be withdrawn to your bank account (yes I know you going to reply you can use overseas ATM withdraw cash but there’s a fee for that)

Not in the stolen card sense, but charge disputes like merchant accidentally adding a zero at the back, nightmarish to resolve..

actually I okay with leaving small amounts in YouTrip, surely next time travel can use, or online buy stuffs to clear it out

Just landed in India and took Uber and charged on Amaze. The exchange rate I got is 55.99 while spot rate is 56.46.

So about 0.8% markup

Dun know … i got a lot of rejects and various different merchant and it would not work on grab at all when i traveled despite working ok in Singapore prior to the trip. Frankly it Is embarassing to have to wrangle around telling merchants to try again and again or change to chip or to swipe etc you look like you on your last dime. Resturant bill goes out and waiter comes back saying the card failed do you have another. i also got a lot of failures via touch pay or whatever you call it where the merchant said it failed but then i get like 3-5 transactions on my card that stayed there for 10 days or so.

Then there was a bunch of reversals and some fx at 2.05% over master card rate. The support was just nominal and pretended that the fx changes were a surprise they intented to investigate for me but then just closed the ticket with no reply. I guess the folks here still claiming the virtues of amaze card just have not used it on the ground overseas with realworld traveling at a spectrum of merchants with hotel bonds etc being booked. Even a macdonald payment was reversed. Revolut is just a lot cleaner and friendly and not completely out of control.
Recently i did have a reversal on revolut for a frequent flyer ticket with revolut and their help could explain to me exactly how they saw the payment so then i could work through it with quantas. It turned out the qantas system had an issue at the time i booked.

Until amaze sorts themselves out i think it is irresponsible to use them. They been around for a while and the task just seems a bit beyond their capabilities.
