Recently I went for a routine eye check up (at KTPG) and they discovered a condition that needed treatment. After the treatment, they helped e-file for insurance claim. When the insurance company (GE) received the medical documents, they rejected my claim. Reason: it was recorded in my discussion with my eye doc that I said I have floaters. And I said I thought I might have them maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Because I bought the policy 2 years ago, they jumped on what I said and rejected the claim because I have a medical history of eye disorder.
I didn't see the floaters as an eye disorder and I really cannot know when it started. I just mentioned it in passing as part of my check up. They have nothing to do with the treatment.
To top it off, the insurance company said I did not declare it when I took up the policy and as such they will insert an exclusion clause not to cover my eyes.
I find this unreasonable and have written to them. But knowing insurance companies, they will jump on anything you say or whatever they can pick in order not to pay a claim.
As a layman, I'm not even sure what I have are floaters but just said it in case the eye doc has an opinion. The doc said it's not a problem because they don't affect my vision.
My agent said I shouldn't have said this. So we shouldn't even ask a doc for opinion on something we feel because the insurance company will pick on them? There is no medical record or history of my floaters except what I said. Even if they want to claim that now there's a record, it should be from the date the eye doc register it. It cannot be from front the date "I think I had". Imagine if someone said I think I had high cholesterol, then it becomes an omission in declaration?
I'm upset and waiting for their response but I'm not hopeful.
Just be careful what you said because doctors will innocently record as if they are facts. And insurance companies will take advantage.

This is normal. They don’t pay for preexisting conditions

Depending whether doctor says the eye condition is due to or affected by floaters and whether doctor felt that the medical would have existed 4 yrs ago and he (patient) ignored it and without declaring to the insurer.

They like this kind of people cause can earn your money for 20 years already..
That's the whole point about insurance and pension correct? Without most people paying and not claiming how can the system stay off being bankrupt . 😀
