Insurance / Planning for newborn.

Even before our newborn arrives, i am planning to have him covered by insurance. Newborn are immunocompromised, they get infection easier than adult, therefore, have a hospital plan should be good for him.

Any suitable plans that can cover my baby from day 1?

None. A child is a dependent. Beyond the standard hospitalization insurance, I dont see a need for coverage for the child.

I only got hospital plan and a personal accident with infectious disease plan that's all.

The only plan you can buy before birth is that covers congenital illness, but payout is low.

A good hospitalization plan is a must but I think a good medical insurance that covers PD is good also. My 7-month baby has visited PD at least 5-6 times now, average once a month because got virus from infant care center. Luckily my company has unlimited PD visit medical insurance.

Ya. My company is very generous in the medical coverage for employees and their family.

It's a copayment scheme. Unless you get a private shield plan rider, you will still need to fork money out.

The only plan that can cover the newborn before it arrives from day 1 is maternity insurance which is mainly for congenital abnomalies. Hospitalisation is a must which can only be bought 14 days after birth/discharge.

For those fortunate to have company coverage for PD visits, that’s striking gold because those are the expected fees which can become a significantly large sum.

Otherwise, a baby personal accident plan for infectious diseases is as important as hospitalisation.

There are other secondary plans for babies of course but most people feel babies have no liabilities hence there’s no need for coverage.

Dun forget about CI or ECI coverage for your child. If suffer illness, either you or your Wife may have to stop your job and take care of them.

There's a not-insignificant cost associated with covering every last cent.

I will probably get ISPs for my kids at some point. But high chance I will not be buying the rider.

you can consider Gen3 policies. Talk to your agent, see if it is something you would like to have. It is a life policy.

My 2 kids is covered under Aviva my shield and already used twice for hospitalization.

wrong. medishield is automatically enrolled for all singaporean babies.
