Hi all,

I wish to purchase integrated shield plans for my parents both aged 63 this year. However, they are in medication for diabetes and high blood.

Any insurers to recommend? Am sure medishield life is not enough shld a major illness hit.

Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid that no insurer will want take your parents on since they have diabetes. It is on the list of uninsurable illnesses.

But you can try Aviva for their moratorium underwriting.

The aviva moratorium u/w is honestly kind of bull. I called up to enquire, they mentioned that they MAY cover your pre existing condition after 5 years if there isn't relapse. Ultimately, they don't give you an assurance even if your condition does not affect you in the next 5 years.

Its like telling you i may return you your money after 5 years if you stop asking for it. 5 years later, "nah, i'll pass"

Honestly, Moratorium undw is kinda grey. Although there is a 5 years waiting period, however, it doesnt mean once u pass the waiting period they will cover for full. It DEPENDS. Its better to opt for full underwriting for a peace of mind. All you need is to meet a insurance broker that can do all 6 shield plans insurance providers to get you the underwriting outcome.

Lol. I dun think there is any one who does all 6. Whether moratorium underwriting is suitable or not depends on whether the person is insurable or not in the first place and what is the pre-existing condition. If it is a condition that will likely be declined then it is better to go under moratorium as you can't choose this option after being declined by any insurer before. If it is something minor and the insured just wants to see if there will be any exclusions or what the exclusion will be then of cos you can try with the different insurers and see the outcome.

The only reason i would go for aviva would be if they could upkeep their sensibility in determining if i could be covered from day 1 upon taking up moratorium u/w. If not what is the point really, after 5 years it is still a question mark. Its as good as getting rejected for it 5 years later. It does not give clients the assurance that they very much need with their pre-existing conds.
