[Intel] A Married Mrs Haswell

Intel-Haswell_BGA_4000R.png

That Intel is thinking of adding solutions with socket BGA (Ball Grid Array) platforms with LGA (Land Grid Array) is not a secret, nor for the next proposed Haswell, as we have already seen . From VR-Zone arriving more information on the three BGA CPU Intel Haswell 4000 series recognizable by the suffix R, the suffixes were so far to indicate CPU with unlocked multiplier (K), the low TDP (T) and low power (S).

The models of the three CPUs are Intel: Core i7-4770R, Core i5 and Core i5-4670R-4570R. These three CPUs integrate the HD 5200 iGPU, while the CPU socket LGA peak have a Intel HD Graphics 4600 and declared TDP is 65W, compared to 87W of their desktop versions.

These solutions might be adopted in PC AIO (All in One) and perhaps also in compact systems NUC (Next Unit of Computing), but there is no reliable information about it.

Only available with 55W "Performance" quad-core notebooks, a.k.a ridiculously heavy, huge and not practical notebook :vijayadmin:
You seem to forget the fact that an alternate notebook configuration with standalone Intel quad core CPU (with IGP software-disabled) and Nvidia GeForce GT 650M will have TDP easily exceeding 55W.

GT 650M already has a TDP of 45W to begin with, adding TDP from IGP-disabled mobile Intel quad core CPU will balloon the overall TDP.

These GT3/3e SKU chips will, rather, bring about smaller form factor notebook with less motherboard PCB area occupied by individual chips and more to spare for greater battery capacity, which has already benefited mobile AMD APUs.

Anyway Haswell is 公 one. They sound too masculine. :s13:

Well, the CPU is connected to the motherboard. Prior to the LGA socket, the CPU has pins sticking out...

Earlier generation was called "Miss Ivy" so now it is "Mrs Haswell"? Titles for some movie(s)?

I was actually referring to the CPU's own TDP which I believe is what they were referring to with the "55W Performance" notation, since only the quad i7's run at 45W and up TDP.

If it proves to be a GT650M contender, pairing with a 35W dual core i5 would definitely be game changing, but with a 45W quad i7 its a bit redundant alr since the CPU will still be sapping power from the battery too fast.

I feel a 55W chip will still be quite hot for a small/ slim chassis to handle to be honest. So I think this might be pushing it if used in a Ultrabook. AIO and HTPC, probably will be nice, but to some extent will depend on the price.
