I'll think it's a bit pricey though it should do the job.

Why not look at the zotac OI520? Has more USB ports. I'm getting the Gigabyte for its vga connector.

what do u reckon then? laser selling at $199.

I am venturing into something new... wish me luck.:D:s22:

Seller also said the HM70 chipset is obsoleted & add USD$6 for the HM77 chipset plus dual-intel Intel 82574L gigabit nic & 4X USB3. :s12:
Add $10 for 300N wifi. Add $4 for vesa mount.

I'm going to run XBMC on ubuntu.

There are other options for customization, like without RAM & SSD. So you can add your own bigger SSD and better ram maybe.

Factory price mini pc windows 7 or linux with Celeron C1037U 1.8Ghz with 2 RJ45 USB 3.0 TF SD Card 4G RAM 64G SSD full alluminum-in Mini PCs from Electronics on Aliexpress.com

2014 NEW Intel Celeron C1037U aluminum fanless dual core living room HTPC Barebone Mini PC with USB 3.0 HDMI 2 RJ45 TF SD Card-in Mini PCs from Electronics on Aliexpress.com

I supposed the same upgrade options applies. $10 for wifi. S$4 VESA mount. S$6 for upgrade to new vesion with 4X USB3, Dual Intel NIC & the newer chipset.

hmmmm. the price with shipping. after conversion rate is quite close to the gigabyte brix. why wouldnt u consider the brix instead.

And Supposingly the N2807 is faster than C1037U, or am i wrong?

I think I checked the price of Brix before & do not remember seeing anything at S$199... I would be surprised to see Laser selling it so cheap.

Another reason I get the China ones, the flat chassis looks nicer than the brick & the they can ship with a smaller size mSATA SSD like 64G which probably cannot be found locally and not to mention at that kind of price.

Locally, probably can only get SATA 120G at $120+ & if you get SATA 64G probably going to closer to $99 range. 64G mSATA SSD is probably non-existence in Singapore... let alone pricey.

So, overall cost of ownership is still lower with the China mini PC.

I use ubuntu mostly so anything more than 64G is a waste to me anyway. Windows does need minimum 120G SSD for a start.

The China mini PC uses Atheros Wifi, Intel NIC which have superb compatibility with linux. So, I have seen some users confirmed wifi works flawless with ubuntu 14.04 before I make payment. Not sure if the Brix PC uses a Atheros Wifi though, the cheaper realtek driver in linux is often a hit & miss thing. I had nightmare on some realtek USB wifi dongle.

Bad news though, the unit I got from China, HDMI port is not working. Now seller asked me to ship back to them & they will reimburse me via paypal & send me a replacement upon checking. I have shipped via Singpost & it's fee is ridiculously expensive at S$49.60 plus the box at S$4.50!

Meaning, 1) I am not sure the merchant will reimburse me such expensive shipping fee & 2) I am not sure when she'll ship back the replacement unit. :(

Well... maybe this should discourage my online shopping spree & encourage me to buy from local distro again...

I do agree for the specs, this is on the pricey side even if you can find it at 199 bucks. But in terms of capability, this will run well as a basic HTPC.

Now that I have to wait another 2 weeks for the merchant to verify & reship a replacement... I am so damn tempted to get the Brix for S$199... however... that'll still mean I have to get cheaper 64G SSD from Amazon or buy the expensive SSD from Sim Lim ...:o Given Gigabyte's reliable motherboard, I have high confident on the reliability of their Brix pc, without doubt.

Maybe I should just stop playing with or wasting money on computers... :(:o

just checked the Gigabyte site. They didn't specify what wifi chip is included in the mPCI-e slot. Thankfully, when I download the driver, it showed a RealTek chipset. So that should deter me from the irrational action to just grab one from Laser.... due to the potential compatibility issue of Realtek drivers in Linux. Phew...:s22:

On the China mini PC, I didn't have enough time to install ubuntu over it. But I plugged in a Ubuntu installed on a USB thumbdrive & the Qualcomm/Atheros Wifi driver & Intel HD graphic driver were instantly up & running. Basically, when intel HD graphic hardware acceleration is enabled, it will playback HD graphic smoothly. And if the wireless driver isn't compatible with linux, often have wifi throughput issue & result in HD video buffering as it's streamed from my NAS. Both situation did not happen & so confirmed the China mini PC is more linux friendly.

No chance to test the speed of the Intel NIC though... before I ship it back.
