Which is exactly why I went with the 9700k. 9900k is not an efficient chip and in gaming, it shows such a minute difference between the 9700k. Infact, the 9700k has shown better framerates compared to the 9900k across the board consistently. Many have commented that hyperthreading past 10 threads brings latency into play during gaming.

I just got Battlefield V last night and recorded my gameplay and it is smooth as heck. If anyone keen to see the stats during gaming, I will gladly upload my link here to show the performance and temps during gameplay.

This iteration of Intel processors fastest is really not usually the best. And those who pair the 9900k with entry level boards, good luck on temps. Some of the boards VRM implementation are not well designed for the 9900k to run.

If gaming is your priority, get the 9700k. The 9900k does not offer you that performance delta in gaming which is less than 1-3% between game titles. Overclock the 9700k and you are easily faster than the 9900k and still running cooler.

I would not be surprised. 9900k has been overhyped prior to launch and biggest concern is temps.

Same here temps are awesome even overclocked.
Middle column is CPU usage and last column is CPU temps.
Frametime graph is flat with no stutter or lags at all.

The same reason why i7-8700K is hotter than i5-8600K. Both are 6 cores, i7 have HT.

I built a 9900K for a bro here, using be quiet DRP4 dual tower cooler. This cooler is a Noctua NH-D15 equivalent. At stock settings, cinebench is at 80s, peaking at 90s deg C on sg ambience of 28-30 deg C. Without air cond ambience, it's almost impossible to consider. On 5ghz all cores, I can't run any AVX workload without throttling (yes hitting over 100 deg C). Cinebench at high 80s and mid 90s scatter around all 16 logical cores, some peaking over 100 and throttle.

But I keep the OC settings nonetheless as the pc is intended to be used in air conditioned environment, which load temps are lowered to slightly more feasible mid 80s on high load scenario. Otherwise, gaming is at 50s and 60s.

Keeping in mind, the build is inside a very well ventilated FD Meshify C, with 6x GT fans, all on custom fan curves to prevent turbulence and optimal acoustics when it's below 60 deg C. Once exceed, corresponding fans will ramp very aggressively to keep everything cool and under control.

Did you run any AVX offset? Could help with temps when running AVX workloads.

Oh yea, i mean highly unlikely vendor will sell CPU+MB only. Only for bundle for full PC purchase.

Bah, 9900K is overhyped, 9980XE (basically a speed bump 7980XE) is sheer heat monster (with cores hitting >100C!!!).....seriously, Intel is sorta like AMD when it comes to GPU, no answer to the competition (nVidia). Don't get me wrong, I love AMD, might go with ZEN 2 upgrade next year, and I even love their VEGA's.
