Unless Xeon also adopt the same architecture, like that we can see 32 core systems for a dual processor systems

Industries running heavily threaded apps will definitely appreciate the extra cores.

Btw Skylake X seem to have lower IPC than Skylake just for your info. R15 shows 198 ** on a OCed 7900X at 4.5GHz, lower than the stock for 7700K it seem.

I would say this is still aim at consumer and not industry. Industry do not use motherboard with RGB lighting.

This is basically taking Xeon and put inside your own home.

I think the negative press will hit Intel this time more than their previous generation.


Linus already gathered close to 2M view and Jay2cent about 330K. And the youtube comment (including the one from De8uer delidding video) will give u an idea if the majority are having positive or negative vibes about Intel business to consumers.


That is not including the TIM paste that is steering unhappiness among the OC community.

I think this time round AMD TS will get more sales than they probably thought

That is the worst decision to buy a $339+$250=$589 USD combo for a useless Quad CPU that has no upgrade path (X399 confirm need a new board as always from Intel)

Based on Intel's HEDT naming behaviour: X58, X79, X99, X299. The next one will be X499, and it will be based off 10nm Cannonlake. The X299 will be here to stay for another 2-3 years, or whenever Intel gets threatened by AMD to move quickly into 10nm chips.

I guess it all depend on how fast Zen+ is coming out. If its based on 7nm which has 3.3X density better than 14nm. Be rest assured Intel will accelerate their 10nm CPU to match because 7nm Zen is going to double the core count easily.

Next gen will definitely see the final nail to intel coffin if 7nm zen+ get pull off next years with 50% or double more cores.

actually i am pretty interested in the AMD threadripper as well. Shall see how it goes. Saw the ryzen when released they had ram issues. Afraid it might be the same for the X399 series as well. crossing my fingers.

Threadripper, Epyc are all made from the same 8c16t die codenamed zeppelin SoC (aka 1700/1700x/1800x) except there's 2 on 1 pcb.

The tangible improvements are probably from the platform maturing but with the same building blocks there shouldn't be miracles (in the area of ram) though Zen seems very scalable in its implementations. At most its probably a slight revision of the same die at best.

Anyway Der8auer mentioned the i9 XE eta is Q4. Pretty far gg.
