We heard about the new 8 cores CFL CPU coming, and is probably given a I9 moniker with the codename 9900K.


But what is the best news is that, it was hinted by Der8auer that it could come soldered.

It sounds like there's a lot you're not excited about in the high-end CPU space right now. Let's talk about what you do think is interesting and new right now.

There are a lot of things that I find really interesting, but unfortunately they have not been released yet. NDA stuff. But I can say, especially on the Intel side, by the end of the year, we'll see some very exciting stuff. I can't say much more without getting into trouble.

One thing you mentioned in your video about the Intel 8086K anniversary chip was some rumors were going around it was going to be soldered, and it wasn't. It seems like that's an ongoing topic about Intel CPUs, whether they'll be soldered or not. None of the i5s or i7s are soldered still, right? What do you think about that?

Let's say that's what I meant with exciting. You can draw your own conclusion.

The journalist specifically ask his opinion about I5 / I7, at which Der8auer replied he is excited.


I doubt he will be that excited if it was the HEDT as the HEDT soldering existed recently in BW-E time (2016). It was the mainstream CPU that didnt see soldering for a very long time (since sandy bridge) which make him excited I guess.

The soldering is the easiest step for Intel to improve their CPU. No extra design is needed on the CPU architecture. Just put some molten solder on top and that is it.


Also the resignation of Brian means there is going to be big changes going on in Intel, Hopefully with Bob swan things will really change for the good.

It was drop only in Skylake-X.

In short, Intel CPU becomes way too hot to be competitive, and 10nm is going to be worst, if they cannot win the core wars, they have to secure the ST crown at all cost, or their market share will be getting a big hit for real.


Last but not least, the Z370 refresh is also rumored to come with 24 PCIe 3.0 lanes

Considering that Intel deprecates sockets every 'tick' cycle, it was really a matter of time before they decide to solder down the processor for good.

Not exactly keen on it though. The CPU always outlasts the mainboard and its attachments. This means that if the board fails, we have to throw away both the board and a working processor. Way to contribute to more e-waste. :s8:

They won't

1) This means Intel sells CPU to mobo makers. Less $$$.
2) Cannot support so many SKU combinations of CPU and mobo.

In doing so, they will hurt the mobo manufacturers. However, they will also suffer since now they need to focus on main boards which there were never good with to begin with. A good example is their NUC where the Bios quality is quite poor.

They will not soldered down their CPU to the mobo. They will be killing themselves in performances and choices against AMD


What I mean soldered is the soldering between the CPU bare die with the IHS. Which give significant better cooling as compared to the shitty TIM they used.

The processor of some entry level laptop/notebook are soldered too, nobody actually care to upgrade the processor even on those socket laptop/notebook. If the volume of desktop is low enough and SFF system is the future, AMD will follow if Intel take the lead.

Take the fruit brand as example, non removable battery, no expansion slot and no 1/8" audio jack. Other manufacturer followed. Most if not all ultrabook battery also non removable and no one bat a lid on the issue.

Totally different topic. This is not about soldering components to the motherboard, this is about using solder as the TIM, which AMD does with Ryzen but Intel still uses gunk.

I believe the purpose of the soldered components on laptops and mobile phones is to give it a slim profile, which is not required on desktops. There are already options like that for desktops in the form of NUCs. What you said could happen, but I don't think it will happen in the near future. Also, AMD may not follow suit since they do not have the financial might, nor the focus (since they are competing with Intel on CPU and Nvidia on GPU)like Intel to create their in house mobo.

What i mean by solder is actually removing need to delid your intel cpu to get better temps.

Intel cpu have poor overclockability due to the thick thermal paste they use under their IHS. The cpu will thermal throttle at modest voltage. When you delid it and reapply liquid metal you get 20-30 temps lower. Resulting in better clock. Solder will solve this issue without voiding your warranty as it conduct heat as well as liquid metal in that respect.

That is not the point, the point is good temp will prolong the stability and the lifespan of your CPU, which is against Intel wishes.


You want to breakthrough 5GHz, you have to delid, and that void your warranty. With solder you can easily do that without delid as the temp will be good.

Heatsink is definitely required, but if Intel decides to solder the die to the heatspread, it will certainly bring the temps down drastically and allow for better overclocking. Current chips run very hot as they are pushed to the limit to try and keep up with competition and the lousy TIM don't help.

Intel may need to use solder if they want to compete with AMD in the 8 core space. Otherwise they can't manage the heat.

I don't deny. I fail to see why Intel is so adamant about using solder for their higher end chips. Starting with those that they market is overclocking enabled chip, is it a big ask to solder instead of using TIM since people pay a significant premium over the non overclocking part. In the higher end market, it is even more perplexing why they cheap out on the solder when the product costs a bomb and the heat output is massive due to the number of cores.

No competition is the key, also the CEO is a problem lol. They remove him and suddenly u see interesting changes coming.

For me exciting news is dropping in price from $50-$150....
