I used their Intel COmpute Stick b4.....the heat issue is quite a problem when using for long hrs....so hope u have good ventilated area to use it.

Based on my past experience, it is not recommended to get an Intel NUC. I feel the system is quite buggy, and for my case, my first unit failed after a few days. Can't boot despite the fact I did not do anything other than normal usage. Fortunately, it was within the 14 days return/ exchange window, and I could get a new unit back from the place of purcahse. Sold it off within a few weeks and never looked back.

FYI TS, Gigabyte release the Ryzen Brix last month. I asked distro CDL and they said end of Dec shld be here. So if can wait, shld wait a while more.

Been using one as my HTPC in my TV console, NUC5i3RYK from 2014 to 2018 and NUC8i5BEK from 2018 since. Can't complain with my use case.

I feel the Aftershock Vision Mini, which is using the Asrock STX form factor should be a better alternative. Pricing wise, I think it is reasonable, and the best part is that parts are easier to swap/ switch, and Aftershock also provides 2 or 3 years of warranty (can't recall now since they introduced the 2 years warranty for some products recently).

have been using NUC5PPYH since 2015. It has never give me any issues.
it depend on your usecase. i only use it to make my non smart tv smarter for streaming media.

Pricing wise, I think it is reasonable, and the best part is that parts are easier to swap/ switch, and Aftershock also provides 2 or 3 years of warranty (can't recall now since they introduced the 2 years warranty for some products recently).

I did considered that but the size much bigger than the Gigabyte Brix.
For the Aftershock Vision Mini size, I might probably build something like a APU size case with a mini-ITX board, 4650G + DC-ATX PSU, all from Taobao.

I had the 8th gen but switched to ryzen deskmini to play games.

Recently bought an nuc for a <10w, cheap and tiny snapraid / nas build. Less than $250 in total (without hdd)

Been using the i5 version for the last 3 years as htpc... so far so good... quiet and small size. You're paying a premium for the size, just i feel it's worth it. As long as you dun play intensive games on it.

Personally used a few mini PC and currently using the Asrock Mini, I do not feel that it is the recommended setup for use with TV console or similar.

One negative aspect is that it has a exposed CPU Fan which over time gather a lot of dust inside the case. Other fanless mini PC collect less dust. I have not dusted any of my other fanless mini PC in the past but I have already cleaned my Asrock twice in the last six month. And it is only sitting on my desk in my room. I can't imagine it being placed behind the TV console.

For me, custom build Mini ITX PC is the better option. The Aftershock Vision Mini is certainly more compact, powerful, and better in value than an Intel NUC because the i5 barebone would have set you back around 400 to 500 bucks.
