Does it matter to you the size of internal storage (assuming 32GB and above) if there is a expansion for microSD ? I wonder why people want to buy 64GB if you can slot in a microSD.

My phone minimum 64gb.

Some phone micro sd slot is hybrid and some users need 2 sim card so = no sd card. So get higher gb phone lo.

well i believe it could goes a few ways.

1. is that to make the phone work faster (as there are a few phone maker saying with mircosd, it will increase the time for the system to boot up completely and battery usage due to the write and read from mircosd. (but best u can google a few them why they ditched.

2. if there isn't any delicate slot of for mircosd and user have 2 sim concurrently in use and its a hybird card slot.

and that all i know for now.

- Some phones don't have microSD slot; or hybrid slot but the user gets it for dual-SIM so no space to insert microSD without adding some adapter that protrude out of the device.

- Recent Android builds make app2sd almost impossible. The implementation of mounting microSD as another "internal storage" is almost non-existent despite Android having that function in the MM build (iirc).

- Not all apps can use microSD as the alternate storage medium. All downloads for those apps will reside in the internal storage

i think 32gb internal storage is sufficient for apps and os with sd card for music, photos and videos.

however, most manufacturers sell higher ram variants with higher storage options. as such, 64/4 variants are generally better than 32/3 variants for not much higher cost.

Ok... thanks for all the perspective. I'm just the “academic" type who likes to know.

speaking of this, anyone has any tips on how to move apps to SD card on the newer redmi phones?

u need to root and download the app2sd app to move, but bear in mind if your SD card is removeable to the sim card will damage the app, thus u have to reinstall it again.

Nowadays is at least 64gb for ur media files such as photos, videos n music. Besides the storage on the phone will wear out fast so need to note on that

Because many are not tech savvy .... they believe that more means better .... they don't know there is this thing called "adoptable storage" from Android M onwards for expansion of device's internal storage capacity .... 哈哈。

Almost no major OEM implemented it.

Sadly..if you wanna do that u need a specific card which is the A1 mircosd to work well. Otherwise I will feel sluggish for the apps.

And like what sent said. Need phone maker to implement the software in as well.

So what's so good about this Adoptable Storage other than installing apps on it and apps that could not move data to SD, like WhatsApp ?

If I don't even exceed 80% of internal storage, Adoptable Storage is not useful ?

well not much beside using it for apps. (as storage is can but aint sure how the data is been saved or write if the card is removed.)

Maybe the Android One devices can run adoptable storage feature .... or those with Android Go .... with improved data security of the ported microSD card, I presumed.

I believe the adoptable storage is transferable .... means you could store your whatsapp or facebook app, app data & app settings in this space and move them to a new device almost instantaneously .... like when you upgrade your old handset .... very quick and convenient procedure yo..

Apparently the technology is not there yet.
Just for expanding your device's internal storage capacity and also to make the external microSD card secure against data theft .... no more ..
