Stereo at Causeway point stocks quite a range of headphone, earphones and pads, maybe you can call them and check.

i think hung bros at sim lim selling at $70. genuine.

$70 genuine is a bit fishy..... Coz the fake look exactly similar to the genuine ones. Even the Sennheiser service centre needs to dissect the CX300 to tell the diff. That's how good the fakes are. Only way is to hear and tell the diff. The fake sounds more muffled and hollow, but if you have a genuine one to try side by side. Simple way... buy only from authorised resellers that stocks the "GOLDEN STICKER STATING GENUINE SENNHEISER PRODUCT" distributed by Pantrade / 2 yrs warranty. With such a good profit, even authorised resllers might be tempted to sell fakes since they look so similar. Why I know???? My friend bought a fake in SLS, broke down, sent to sennheiser asia service, FAKE.

Been using Cowon A3 with AKG 412P for quite some time until the headphone broke a few weeks ago.

Due to festive season, my wallet has been well armed for the next acquisition to replace my weeny cowon earphones. Tried out AKG 518 dj at Stereo but with a 2.5m of cable and heavy cans...meh.

any other recommendation? Prefer strong bass, price below $150.

Listen to pop with rock. prefer supra-aural, portable, preferably open but close is acceptable too.

Edit: Cowon A3 rated impedance is 32 ohms.

Noob to audio stuff here. What closed headphones should I get for ~$100?
Preferences:
-Not a fan of bass.
-I'll be using it everywhere, so preferably portable ones, though I've no problem carrying full-sized cans around either (been lugging a 5+kg laptop bag for years, a little more wouldn't hurt).
-I'm not touching ear-canal earphones; not buying any amps either.

Any advice? :3

Maybe u can try the Grado SR60. I've got a friend who own this headphone and was happily ever after. He got his at stereo causewaypoint after extensive choosing. Don't take my word for it coz I'm a newbie still trying to get my earphones with limited budget. I've not been to stereo yet but will make a effort to since my friend had been highly recommending me to.

How much does a HD555 and HD595 cost now?

Are these the best headphone to get at their price range?

u have a number of choice actually. And depends on your use for it. There's also hd280 and akg240s and also grado series.

What i do know from reviews is that hd555 are more suited for movies, whereas hd280 more for music.

I am not a audiophile. I have a Denon 2106 AVR with a set of Mordaunt-Short Genie 5 speakers and sub at home but I find something missing.

I like vocal loud, clear and warm with lower treble.

I like the clarity from 24bits dcs disks.

And I like what I heard from the speakers in That CD Shop at Great World City and the small cd shop below Times in Marina Square. Heard this shop play Daughtry and I like the sound a lot, but when I play at home with my set at high volume, my ears are not comfortable and the vocal isn't so clear.

May I know what makes you decide on HD555?

Tried Audio Technica, Grado at similar price range.

Still prefer Sennheiser due to its fit, and the sound staging is great. But then due to its open design, it leaks out quite a bit of sound.

Other than jaben and stereo, where can I buy hd555 and how much is it?

I read that those with impedance higher than 50 should goes with an amp.

I have a Denon AVR at home but I think I will be using it mostly unamped with an discman.

If using mainly unamped with discman, is this model good enough? Or, there are more value for money headphones at higher or similar pricing? HD595?

Some said Audio Technica ATH700, ATH900 and Beyerdynamic BT880 are better than HD555. What are you guys' opinion?

Agree. I tried my HD555 on my iPod Touch... and I need to crank up the volume to the max in order to start hearing audible music coming out from the iPod. A portable amp (with a DAC) would be the best bet. In fact, HD555 sounds superb on my HT Omega Claro Halo soundcard possibly due to built-in high fidelity headphone amplifier TPA6120 AMP IC. I often shut my eyes and listen to music on it!

HD555 is too big and bulky to be portable and just its audio 6.3-3.5mm audio connector is heavier than my iPod! Hence, it is only used at home.

As for Beyerdynamic, I have not try so no comments. Best is still to trust your ears and go audition them!
