Hi chopra,

Allow me to answer for him.

The very basic basis of investing would be to get good returns.

Is that true for 2cansem?

How about you, Marcusse? What would be a good time to enter the Market? If we can't time, what would be the alternative approach? What are the caveats to the alternative approach?

It depends on individuals comfort zone. DCA is the most basic but may not be appropriate at certain times for different individual.

Btw, what kind of financial vehicles do you usually advice on? Thanks again.

It depends on the current market :)

So based on the current market, what vehicle?
or do you need more details?

Hi chopra

So based on the current market, what vehicle?
or do you need more details?

There are several instruments good to play as of current market. Yes, alot more details as pertaining to individual status. For instance, there are stuffs that are flying upwards while the systems are melting away. But not all can handle the deviation.

A word of advise in investing:
There is no such thing as free lunch,
Ask yourself what is the price to pay before commitment.

To your success,

Marcusse, you've been remarkably evasive when chopra's asked you actual questions about your view on silver and how to invest in it. Either answer the question and contribute to the discussion or keep quiet.

Update: Before I get asked, I think silver's massively overcooked and it'll trade in single digits within five years. Long-term shorts are expensive and dangerous, though, so I'd stay away from it altogether. If you absolutely must get long, the SLV ETF is the cheapest way to do it.

There, see how easy it is to answer the question?

Silver got hyped up in 2011. It will have a lot of problem returning to just $35. Slowly, we will learn not to get hyped up stock but buy before the news is released. Take profit when news is released instead of going just "long term".

I've gotten a few friends and opened a UOB Silver account just now. Gotten at the price of $37.02/Ounces which I feel is a good price.

BTW, you need 640 ounces to be the most cost efficient. 0.375% of 640 = 2.4 ounces = Basis fee. But that'll be almost 22K already.....

Hi Casper, i checked May 2012 Silver price is around $30- $31usd,
how come u gotten from UOB at $37?

any care to advise how this price come along?

Gold to drop to USD900/oz and silver to USD16/oz

No point hoarding gold and silver now lah.
The price for gold has plummeted in recent weeks to less than S$1260/oz
and silver remains below S$20/oz.
As long as the US dollar retains its value (which most likely it will), gold and silver prices will continue to be manipulated and beaten down.

Search the internet for
1. History Shows Gold May Drop To As Low As $900 An Oz – And Still Remain In A Bull Market
2. Gold Will Drop to $900 – Silver to $15 – Before Going Parabolic!
3. Jim Rogers: Gold Could Fall to $900 in Next 1-2 Years

Nobody knows how low or high gold price is going.

In the market, there is no "Will". Everything are just probability.

Don't talk you are so sure, unless you are willing to bet your entire life savings into it.

Even physical like bars and coins have competitive prices amongst local dealers now. Prices and premiums have come down quite a bit. Somemore, no more GST.

Oh hey, this thread!

Since I don't mind doing a bit of an endzone dance when I'm right, I should probably also flag up the times where I was wrong; I got the direction right but I was a bit too aggressive on this call six years ago.

When I said "it's gonna trade in single digits within five years", silver was trading around the $28 USD mark; it made it up to $34 and then folded like a cheap umbrella. The low print was about $14 back at the beginning of 2016, and now it's trading in the low $16s.

If you'd bought $10,000 of an S&P 500 ETF when I made that post and diligently reinvested the dividends, you'd have about $19,900 now; if you'd bought SLV, and diligently reinvested the oh wait there are no dividends are there, you'd have... um... $6270. Awkward.

And yeah, the answer to the original question still hasn't changed. If you want to get long silver (though you probably don't), the SLV ETF (listed in NY) is the easiest, most liquid way to do it.

yup agree with u here.
silver (and also gold) has not been doing well as an asset. the past 10 yrs have been good years since 2008, in good years, precious metals does not shine well. :p

gold and silver does not give dividends too. =:p

Maybe it’s time to relook into precious metal, it seems to be enjoying an uptrend now.

1) It really isn’t. Gold spiked from $1200 to $1500 and is now dribbling off like your senile old granny; platinum seems to have gone into secular decline on the back of lower automotive demand... why bother with any of it?
2) This thread is over a year old. Digging up old threads is frowned upon here; it makes you look like a spammer trying to boost your post count.

I beg to differ….Gold formed a triple top pattern and broke the psychological resistance of $1350.

I’m sure most technical analyst will agree that no financial instrument/product will run on a linear line and Precious Metal is no likewise. After running for a while, it will need to rest, in other words it will need to consolidate first before it’s next breakout.

(p.s. *Noted on the old thread issue, will be mindful of it in my future posts).

@Xin,
be careful, Shiny Thing is a precious metals basher.
He will tolerate people buying some coins, but he constantly tries to deter people from seriously investing in PM in physical form, leading to lead them away from physical and into ETFs or some other form of financial products.
I have a thread about physical PM and he came over there too to harass someone who like you had commented about silver.

As far as his "This thread is over a year old. Digging up old threads is frowned upon here; it makes you look like a spammer trying to boost your post count", this is clearly non-sense: If one wants to boost his post count, he can do it reviving old threads, opening new ones, or just posting around on the forum with meaningless 1-line-posts.

My general advice is: Do your thing and don't worry: there are moderators here, and they can become active if needed.
I had myself a couple of trolling posts cancelled from my thread by the moderation after I asked to.

If you post something wrong, don't worry, your post gets flagged up immediatly to the moderation.
If some forum member gives you some advice, be thankful and feel free to consider it, but if one starts giving you instructions, unless he is moderation, you can disregard him

Thank you for your kind advice. I thought Shiny Thing was a moderator (Supremacy Member rank with 8k+ posts) and that he was giving a warning, so I heeded his gentle reminder.
