It's possible, just depends on the scope.

It's like, if you're MAE/CEE/ENE, and you go bank, of course hard to justify la.

But if you're EEE, becoz EEE has infocomms, it's possible - if you enter the bank as Tech intern

Wow! Thanks for enlightening me on that. I didn't realise that EEE people can get internships in banks.

When people say that they want to try for an internship in the bank, I always generalise that they are looking for either accounting/auditing, finance, or marketing/sales kind of internships. So when people say engineering students can get internships in bank and are graded for it as a large weightage module, I find it quite hard to believe when the banks would rather hire those from the business schools instead. But I guess I forgot about the operations side where infocomms can also be taken into account...

I've actually done and completed an Industrial Attachment with a bank.. so its not impossible :)

Hi! Do you mind sharing your experience in the bank? Which faculty are you from and what was your job scope during that period???

hi there, i was involved in the front office during my stint but most of my peers were able to secure technology attachments at various banks due to the nature of our course.. i was reading computer engineering..

I'd like to find out too.

From what I know, it's possible to do internship at a bank if you're an engineering student. Internships at banks are usually 10 weeks, similar to industrial orientation for engineering firms. The tough part is to get through the interview process. Engineering student will have to compete with thousands of finance students who have spent 2 years studying finance, while engineering students have only taken a couple of finance-related modules, or read up on finance during their free time.

Anyway, the financial industry is recruiting heavily here in Singapore. There have been at least 10 financial firms who came to NTU during the past couple of weeks to conduct recruitment/internship talks. Anyone interested in Shell's internship? I went for their talk last Friday, and found out they have 10 internship vacancies for Mech engineers to fill, spread among NTU and NUS.

I KENA REJECT! FFFFFFFFFFF

Something I regret immensely is not applying for a summer bank internship after Year 2. It would have been the best of both worlds, doing an internship at a bank, and then doing an engineering internship in Yr3 to get the 10 AUs. I was really ignorant at that time, and thought I could only do internship in Year 3... Blarh!
dun be sad. I rejected exchange, internship opportunities during yr2/yr3, just becoz I was blindly dedicated to setting up my CCA. Big regrets, but oh well :(

IA is to gain experience. pretty useful when you graduate.

banks don't usually hire interns after graduating. becoz the job scope varies really wide and interns are not fully operational. it's best to find a full time bank job after graduating using your IA experience. tat's what i'm in now. btw i read engineering but doing treasury stuffs now where engineering skills are highly valued but all studies gone to waste...

Cool, what kind of treasury stuff? What do you mean by engineering skills? As in analytical skills?

mostly operational. finance industry prefer those with vba, macro, excel experience.

yes, you can either model a new spreadsheet program to assist your workflow. or if you are solid enough, you can get into front office as a quant trader.

Additional electives to take IO

Hi there... As I am left with 2 semesters and would like to take IO next year, would like to ask...

1. Can the 6AUs be from any electives? What if I take electives from NIE (education studies)?

2. If I take electives and SU them, will it still count?

3. Since application will only start next year, if I start clearing it this coming semester (this year), will it be counted?

THANKS A MILLION &
Sorry if my questions are stupid. >.<
