from a post over at macrumors

i used to work in software engineering at apple so i can share some insight here. (i don't work there anymore otherwise i wouldn't be allowed to speak at all on apple related forum regardless of topic.)

when you upgrade to a new version of the operating system, in order for customers to use their phones right away (instead of seeing a blank "setup" screen), we continue a lot of optimization, database migration/upgrade, etc behind the scene. some of these things will be done opportunistically (e.g. when you are charging overnight), but some activities need to start right away. these background activities will keep the ap (application processor, aka "cpu") on in the background, competing for the resource your foreground applications are using.

give it a few days and you will see a much more stable stead state experience.

however, as any major version upgrade, performance, battery life, and stability will suffer quite a bit in exchange for features. how apple (and most companies) releases software is the major (X.0) versions are for features, and subsequent versions (.X) are for performance/battery life optimization, bug fixes, etc.

trust me, there are teams of engineers whose jobs are solely dedicated to improve your phone's performance, reduce crashes, etc.

Isn't the wifi and Bluetooth not off (but disconnected) because Apple wants features like AirDrop or Handoff to work?

On pre-iOS 11, both features never worked well for me. Even on iOS 11 betas, AirDrop and handoff worked really well between my Apple devices.

Modern wifi and Bluetooth tech doesn't take up too much battery when dormant anyway so it isn't a big issue for me (but it did take some time getting used to the change I'll admit).

Yep along those lines.
Since WiFi and Bluetooth being turned on these days doesn't even drain battery a lot.

Not sure about you guys but I feel the haptics upon 3D touching an app have somewhat dampened. As the the feedback is abit lesser. On a 7 model here.

From my experience, the App Store did show two updates initially. I was poking around after upgrading to familiarize myself with the apps and layout. After that however, no new updates appeared unless I manually refreshed the list. Probably another bug to fix.

App store wont auto detect which app need to updates le?

I have to swipe down to refresh the update page.

One very useful feature in iOS 11, now you can share iCloud storage quota with family members, I paid extra space for every family menber, now they can use my plan. Once joined organizer’s plan, their ex-paid plans are auto-cancelled (there will be a refund), very smooth process.

Can we create folders in the iphone in the files app? Then save down files from safari or email to that folder?

I can’t seems to find that option, can only create folders in icloud. Can’t save files to iphone either.

I already soft reset after updating in the morning will it affect the re index and re cache? Sigh

No. Do not do anything. Let the system re-index or re-cache some stuff. The lag will go away in a matter of few days.
