You can update directly from your phone. iTunes 11.1 is only needed AFTER you updated to iOS 7.

simple,without the latest itunes your newly updated iOS 7 devices will not sync with itunes.

ok,im total noob when come to updating my mac and itunes... another question,where can i update my mac itunes? my mac currently runs on itune 10.7..

don't waste your precious time.
go to sleep and tomorrow wake up confirm the servers still jamming and you are still waiting for the files to download. getting the ios 7 first doesn't make you a guru or die hard fan.
later after 1am sure got people complain wah lau cannot download successfully or download halfway gone or cannot access blah blah blah... itune cannot this and that then you still have to LLST wait right?
