Hi everyone,

Trying to migrate from iphone 14 pro to oppo find n3

Everything on the iphone is updated and latest, factory reset the oppo numerous times already, did the transfer word for word, followed every guide but my WHATSAPP just doesn't transfer over properly

After everything is done on the iphone and android, I open Whatsapp and start the import process, once it reach 92-95%, it will just crash to home screen.

If I open Whatsapp after this, all I see are bits and pieces of my chat history from the iphone, even though when individual ppl msg me, it shows up in the list and I can see the chat history.

Group chats are 50/50, all of them show up in the list, half of them are empty, other half got full chat history

Pls help, I'm at my wits end already o_O

SO you followed this guide and stuck at step 9?
https://faq.whatsapp.com/1295296267926284
  1. Download the latest WhatsApp iOS version available in the App Store.
  2. Set up your new Android device and choose to restore data when prompted.
  3. Connect the devices by cable when the Copy apps and data screen appears.
  4. Tap Trust if the iPhone warning appears.
  5. Proceed through copying screens.
  6. Keep the iPhone unlocked during transfer.
  7. Use the iPhone camera to scan a QR code when prompted.
  8. Tap Start.
  9. Finish transfer and disconnect the cable.
  10. Open WhatsApp on your Android device.
  11. Verify your account using the same phone number used on your old device.
  12. Tap Start when prompted to import your chat history.
Did you try to prevent the Iphone from going to sleep by regularly touching the screen? Maybe that could be a problem? (also Iphone Display & Brightness -> Set Autolock to NEVER)

Correct, at step 9 it just crash to home screen at 94%.

Both devices never went to sleep, already disabled all the auto lock/sleep stuff already

Any error whatsoever?

No error whatsoever, my last attempt ended an hour ago - 94% then just went to home screen

I can see from the notifications that the WhatsApp importing process is stuck somewhere along the bar, pressing into it, I get the option to restart the import again, which leads to it starting at 50%, then will have some error after that saying it failed

Now I got to wait 5hrs to try again as recently been activating Whatsapp too many times on both old and new phones, verification cooldown for msg/call. Sigh

High probability that the whatsapp transfer app itself is faulty. (By the way, just to check, Iphone's "Background App Refresh" is turned on for all apps?)

According to reddit, the same problem with Samsung S24. The solution is to use a proprietary app with Mac/PC to bypass Whatsapp on phone.

"Finally made it work, it was so painful. Hopefully when someone comes across similar problem in future, there is a path to finally move WhatsApp from iPhone to Android.
Background:

  • Transfer successful on Aug 11, 2024
  • Source device: iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • Target device: Samsung S24 Ultra
Issue:
  • Official Samsung Smart Switch does not work
  • Refer to what I said in the original post
Software used – iMyFone (aka iTransor)
Steps – generally just follow the instructions on screen, in short:

  1. Use Backup function to backup WhatsApp history from iPhone to Mac (PC should work too)
  2. Install latest WhatsApp on Android. Don't need to register phone number
  3. Restore chats from Mac to Android using iMyFone
  4. There will be instructions on how to enable 64-bit encryption. Just ignore it. Not sure why there is such instruction because my Android's WhatsApp and blank / not logged in
  5. iMyFone will analyse your backup file. My WhatsApp was 5GB on my iPhone but on Mac it shows 18GB. It took a long time to load, literally a longgggg time. After analysing, it will automatically go into copying data to Android The entire waiting costed me a full day
  6. After chat was transferred, follow instructions to restore using 64-bit encryption key
  7. Done!
Drawbacks:
  • Seems I lost all WhatsApp stickers
  • Given how long it takes to restore, your WhatsApp history will never be 100% complete unless no one texts you during the process. Good thing is, until you enter phone number on Android WhatsApp, your iPhone WhatsApp is still in use"

Most are on WhatsApp, so bobian.
Agreed that Telegram is much more convenient.
Of cos impt info don't post on telegram since the default setting is not encrypted.

Actually I prefer signal app. Yet to pick up popularity in sg.

Signal almost hard to get people using here. No idea why either.

I think WhatsApp default is also encrypted but cos it is linked to Facebook which have bad privacy . Anything that went mainstream will go downhill once they need to monetize.
