Hi guys,

im currently a uni student looking to purchase a tablet over the summer (cause i am sick of printing my lecture notes!). apps variety/layout is a plus for me, but not a necessity.

to me mainly, im looking for 2 main functions.. i hope users of the mentioned tablets can give me their opinions.

1) basically, the first important thing is to be able to write notes (with stylus), and i mean to write on pdf itself, its just like how a person will write/highlight on his lecture notes on important informations. so its like, when theres an open book exam and electronic device is not allowed then at least i can print out my "hand written" lecture slides and bring it to exam, and the same should apply to ppt slides/ms work doc too.

2) split screen function, so its like.. i can refer to lecture slides and tutorial questions at the same time.

3) sufficient screen size if possible, to support function 1 & 2 (so i dont have to zoom in and out)

so far im edging towards ipad, simply because of its better battery life. ive searched around the net and none seem to give me a satisfiable answer.. so im hoping to gather opinions from users like u guys, and hopefully some of u are students using the tablets for the same purpose like me too!

thanks in advance to everyone :D:D:D

oh and btw.. on the stylus part, i understanding only windows pro comes with it, so for other tablets i'll buy a suitable stylus (if available). do let me know too what stylus are good ! once again, thank you!

You want Galaxy Note (newest one) for split screen and big screen. Also have free S pen stylus.

Have you tried using stylus on iPad bro? I have an iPad stylus can sell you cheap if I can find where I threw it after using one two days.

1) Simply from point 1 alone, you can rule out the iPad or Windows RT as they do not have support for active stylus.
Nothing beats a active stylus like Wacom, N-Trig, S-Pen etc.
The ipad has a lot of great apps and good styluses, but its just not as good or accurate as writing with a true active stylus. I'm aware however, that there is an add on attachment for the iPad which makes an active stylus work with it, tried it but it lags quite a bit and its inaccurate for me. -> aPen A5 Smart Stylus for iPad Review

2) Windows lets you open several windows at one time. The galaxy note series allows you to use a splitscreen function(or rather 2 windows) function for certain apps(can hack it to make an app of your choice multi window).

3) Screen Size is pretty subjective, most people would prefer at least a 10.1 inch and above for writing and note reading, it helps when you have multiple windows open too.

I myself been looking for a tablet suitable for my needs, and I'm not a student, but I do use a lot of PDF annotating in my work, noting down minutes and research notes. I too, am sick of writing down on memopads and pieces of paper so I finally settled on a Galaxy Note 8.0 which I been more than happy with last few weeks. Though, I think you may find a bigger screen to be more suitable for your needs. I chose more on portability.

I would say though, for ms office work, especially PPT, its better to go for a windows tablet, Android while does the job well, does lose a bit of the formatting sometimes.

Of course the best thing to do is as I always say, if possible, go down and try it, as everyone needs is different. :D

Here are some recommendations though:

Full Windows with stylus

Atom(Slower, better batt life) - Samsung Ativ Smart PC, Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2, Dell Latitude 10(careful theres one without the stylus too)

Core i Series(faster, usually weaker batt life) - Samsung Ativ Smart PC Pro, Surface Pro.

Android with Stylus:

Samsung Galaxy Note 2, 8.0 and 10.1

does rt have a pdf reader that allows highlighting and writing stuff?

android and ipad have proper pdf editor though. Ipad's stylus and note10.1 stylus are different. ipad stylus are those cheap stylus compared to note 10.1.

Best is an atom tablet running run window 8, not RT.
