iPhone 12 Pro / Pro Max camera cannot close focus

Hi All,

Did you realize that your iPhone Pro have focus issue when taking near photo.

I’m using 12PM. Me and friends having same issues.

I saw many other having the same issues as well.

I tried after watching the YouTube video link you posted no such issue. I could even go very near to my pc mouse logo n text.

I have the same issue. Seems like you need around 8-10cm to focus. Am sure the 11PM can focus at a shorter distance.

Probably a lidar issue

I am using 12PM and I am facing the same issue as well. Tried to report this through apple support but they couldn't find issue from the hardware diagnosis. They requested me to go to the store to check on the phone.

Both 12PM got this issue

12 pro focuses at very short distance, meaning no such issue

I went to test on 1 of the demo iPhone 12 Pro Max. Same problem.

Same thing here, not sure if it’s even an issue or because of the slightly larger sensor size.

It’s the sensor size, you notice at closer distance the depth of view plane is also thinner esp the longer lens ?

Short explanation , the larger the sensor the depth of view decreases ie the area in focus front and back of an object decreases . Try on a ruler and you can see for yourself.

This is also how the iPhone 12pm gets more pronounced bokeh aka background blur when taking portraits

Probably so. Every lens have its own min focusing distance. What is weird is that people with iPhone 12 Pro used to have this problem but was “fixed” by iOS 14.2. This is from the macrumours discussion

just curious can i adjust that yellow square with the light bulb?

I don’t use wide for close up. I only use the tele for close up.
