IPhone 4 battery 'exploded'

I have a IP4 which was used as a backup last few months after gotten a new phone, was discovered crack-opened from the rear when stored. The battery is found to be deformed/warped.

Phone was completely off and kept in box, used every 2-3 weeks for additional data using data-sim.
Original plug and cable have been used most of the times.

Though phone is > 3 yrs, but will apple still service as I dont think exploded battery is considered normal wear n tear.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

No harming asking. My Ip4 is still in service too.
