my 2yrs old 4s is on ios7.. no problem at all.. didn't notice any speed diff from ios5 to 6 to 7.. maybe is just me

cos my mom's android phone is not holding up anymore

Smoothly definitely not. But acceptable to me personally. That's the oldest iPhone I can use ios 7 with decent experience. 4 and below, no no.

Yup, my 4s is also on iOS 7. Didn't notice any lag. I use my phone mainly for e-mails, whatsapp, light surfing.

The 5 is still a very usable phone, even the 4S is as well.
