Ever since i upgraded to iPhone 5 and recontracted with the new plans from telco which only gives us 2gb,3gb and 4gb data bundles, i realised that my iPhone 5 uses 0.1gb a day on average.... which also means that 3gb is the average usage for a month- can exceed anytime. Anyone else feels the same?

edit: without turning on LTE at all

If u are worried abt busting yr data plan, download Onavo to shrink & compress yr data. It's the best app so far that's able to do this.

Onavo is a app that compresses every single data we send/recieve? or must we turn it on to activate?

IPhone 5 WiFi bug leads to giant cellular data overages - Oct. 1, 2012

It's merely 2 weeks since I recontracted on iPhone 5 on M1 but the cellular usage has gone up to 8GB

I connected to wifi whenever I'm at home and even with the wifi icon shown. It didn't guarantee that it's actually 'CONNECTED' to wifi.

I think many new iPhone 5 users will have a bill shock when the first bill comes.

Beware!

Once u download it, u need to register with Onavo so that it can create a profile in your settings. After that's done, the app will work in the background compressing data both ways.

I have been monitoring my data frequently every 1 hour check once. And beside some excess data, what i use is really what is shown so far. On wifi, abit of celluar data is used, like 200kb or so. But beside that, its all on control. 5 more days before bill come and then i gotta hantam the cso for some billings liao.:s13::s13:

That's why getting the 1st few batches is always risky. I recall when the 4s was launched, the 1st few batches were also pretty bad with battery life & some had yellow tinge on the screen.

Lucky I waited 3 mths before changing to the 4s.

I called M1, the CSO told me when the phone is connected to wifi, if the wifi signal is low the LTE will take over to perform the downloads. Hence cellular data is used.

That's crazy. Does anyone knows this before?

Yes its true. That is because your phone will automatically choose the faster connection and kick away the slower one.
I havent turned on LTE since the day i got my phone , so i cannot justify that myself, take a look at this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4348072?start=0&tstart=0

Thanks for info..

Think may need to switch off cellular data at home so that only wifi will be tapped on for high data usage such as updating of app from app store, watching youtube,.....
