The A6 chip speed is dynamic; it adjusts itself to suit the tasks that the owner runs on it.

One reason for this possibly is to save batt consumption.

More information that I've read from SlashGear and found this :-

"Interestingly, according to ExtremeTech, there are really only two versions out there: the A1428 and the A1429, with the GSM version of the latter simply having the CDMA and two bands of the LTE radio disabled. Meanwhile, FCC documents seemingly confirm that the A1428 secretly has LTE band 2 (PCS, 1.9GHz) and LTE band 5 (Cellular 850, 850MHz) support, despite Apple not actually mentioning it."

Let's not forget that Carriers' firmware also has the ability to lock/disable certain features on the iPhone (i.e Personal Hotspot)..

I highly suspect it's software controlled instead of using different hardware for A1429...

Yes, there's 3 iPhone 5 models. A1428 is strictly GSM with LTE dunno on which bands. And then there's two A1429 models. One of it is also GSM only, difference with the A1428 is simply the different LTE bands that it supports. Then there's the second A1429 model that supports both GSM and CDMA. So I'm wondering did StarHub issued me with the second A1429 model. Because if yes then it's a good thing, signalling that I can roam on CDMA networks as and when needed. That's why I was just curious to know. Haha.

No. If you're on a GSM network, you can only roam on GSM.

But if you're on CDMA, then you go overseas, you can use a GSM SIM card on the phone.

CDMA is (80% of the time) no SIM card. The telco details all inscribed in the phone. GSM is when the telco details are in the SIM card.

A1428 is strictly a US/Canada model.

A1429 (CDMA) means that 4G LTE will work with the approved CDMA carriers only, but 3G network is accepted internationally which includes GSM networks.

A1429 (GSM) means that 4G LTE will work with the stated GSM carriers in their webby, but 3G network will be internationally accepted on GSM networks. This phone will not accept CDMA coverage.

You will most likely get the A1429 model and yes, no real visible difference in usage experience.
