Just a short write up. Haven't really used the phone personally so take my review with a pinch of salt.
What I bought:
- ITG Impossible Pro+ 0.33mm Tempered Glass SP $38USD (Amazon)
- idAmerica Dry Ice Case $14USD (Amazon)
First Impressions:
idAmerica Dry Ice Case
We'll talk about the case first. It provides a very nice matt feeling. It is smooth but not to the point that it slips off your hands easily. Soft to the touch. Do not that it is just soft, not silicon kind of soft. Lip covers the screen of the phone (covering my screen protector as well and will be shown in the photos later). It does not come with a SIM card slot cutout FYI.
The case has a frosted finish to it. Yes, you still can see that your iPhone is Gold/Silver/Black, just not as clear.
Material is made up of strengthened polycarbonate. Not sure how well does it handle drops but I sure am not going to try it anytime soon. If I ever do drop my phone, I'll update you how well it took the hit. The case is not scratch resistant either so unless you want a rugged feel, please avoid keys and coins with this case.
My Verdict: For $14USD, it is a reasonably priced case. The fit, the function, the form, nothing much to complain about. I would recommend this case if you're looking for something simple and doesn't cost a limb after shipping.
ITG Impossible Pro+ 0.33mm Tempered Glass SP
Chasing after the much anticipated hype of tempered glass SP, i finally jumped onto the bandwagon. However I decided to give the all time popular SPIGEN a miss and decided to go with Patchworks instead. Never had experience with SPIGEN SP before so again, take my review with a pinch of salt.
Texture wise, smooth but not as smooth as SP with a matt finish. It really feels similar to the original glass your iPhone uses.
It is thin, 0.33mm, and does not interfere with your fingerprint sensor. Yes, you will definitely feel a 'depression' however if you are not anal about it, it should serve you well. For people who are anal about the 'depression', I suggest that you should just stay away from Tempered Glass SP and just stick with the mainstream kind.
I'm sorry that I can't test the 9H hardness of this SP. Based on the videos online, putting your phone in a pocket of keys/coins will probably crack your SP than scratch it.
It is definitely clear and fingerprint resistant (Not fingerprint proof). Not dust proof. So if you're anal about dust on your screen, I suggest you stay away from this brand too. Not sure how do other brands of TG SP fair.
Installation is a breeze I must say. Alcohol wipes, dust remover sticker are provided. I have experience in sticking SP so this isn't much of a feat for me considering how simple it actually is. However, if you're not confident of doing so, please get someone experienced to do it for you. It's heartbreaking to screw up a $38USD SP.
(Note: The instructions manual did state that we could remove the SP and stick it back again. Not sure how valid this is, didn't risk trying it myself)
My Verdict: It satisfies my criteria of a SP. Clarity (So that I can optimize Apple's retina display), Texture (Smooth and fingerprint resistant), Thin (So that cases with a lip would not crack/interfere with the SP) and Scratch resistant (Not proven yet).
It is pretty costly, $38USD for a screen protector. No doubt its tempered glass, it'll still shatter upon dropping it from a height. On a personal level, it is quite hard going back to traditional SP after you've experienced TG SP (Tempered Glass Screen Protector). If you are someone who drops your phone often, suggest that you stay away from TG SP and invest in a Otterbox Defender or something along those lines.
