All the foldable will fail if they blindly follow Samsung’s 21:18 ratio. Total ****. Only one that is decent is Huawei trifold which is like 16:9 ratio.

iPhone Fold

There is a lot of evidence suggesting the "iPhone Fold" exists, though Apple may never release it. This concept device would use hinges and a foldable OLED display to give users a large screen in a small footprint.

● Apple is testing multiple foldable devices
● Unique hinge design and different folding configurations are possible
● 8-inch display
● Expected in 2026 or later
● Could exceed $1,500 based on market

The "iPhone Fold" exists only in patents and internal testing, but Apple could soon push for a consumer product release. Rumors have been scarce, so information about the product comes primarily from patents.

Evidence shows Apple is considering folding technology. While Apple is rarely the first to new technology, it is known to investigate it via testing and patents until it matures.

Apple could be developing a tablet that folds into a phone or a clamshell that opens up into a full-screen phone. The difference is minimal but notable. Samsung sells two "foldable" devices — the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip and the tablet Galaxy Z Fold.

Going forward, we will consider the product an iPhone capable of folding one way or another and refer to it as the "iPhone Fold." Leaks and speculation suggest the "iPhone Flip" is also a possibility, but Apple could avoid these terms entirely and may not even refer to the device as an iPhone.

Rumors became more scarce surrounding the iPhone Fold through 2023. The rumor cycle for the product spiked in 2022 and has since cooled, which suggests priorities may have shifted internally at Apple.

🔥 Recent research summary of Apple's foldable screen industry chain—250120 (By zwz):

1. Appearance: The left rear folds greatly, and the thickness after folding is 9.2mm, and the thickness on one side is 4.6mm. The inner screen is equivalent to two 6.1-inch mobile phones folded in half, with a total of more than 12 inches.

2. Rhythm: Foldable iPhone will be launched in the fall of 2026, and foldable iPad/MacBook will be launched in 2027. Foxconn's exclusive NPI will be launched in June 2025, and it is expected to reach mass production level at the end of 2025 or early 2026. There is no progress in small folding mobile phones for the time being, and large folding mobile phones are currently the main direction.

3. Sales volume: 8-10 million in 2026, 20 million in 2027. Foxconn will be the exclusive OEM in 2026, and Luxshare will enter the market in 2027.

4. Screen: The display screen is exclusively developed by Samsung; UTG Lens Technology is exclusively developed, currently priced at US$90-100; the titanium alloy/stainless steel/carbon fiber solution for the screen support frame has not yet been determined (Lingyi has sent samples), and the value is more than ten US dollars.

5. Hinge: Apple designed, currently the assembly cost is about $110. Hinge is from Amphenol/Taiwan Shin Nihon; internal parts cost about $35 from Lingyi; MIM cost more than $10, with Jingyan involved.

6. Middle frame: Aluminum alloy middle frame is USD 80-90, exclusive NPI of Fulian. In the mass production stage, it is expected that Lens Technology/BYD Electronics will have the hope of becoming the second largest supplier.

7. PCB: The value of flexible boards is expected to increase by 70%, and module boards will nearly double; SLP is expected to introduce RCC, with a 40% increase in value (12 → 18 USD).

8. Optics: 1) Front camera: Meta Lens ultra-thin technology is used, and the technical solution comes from Apple; the lens is developed by Largan, Sunny Optical, and Lantech; the module is developed by Foxconn and LG. 2) Rear camera: The main camera and ultra-wide angle are both made of glass-plastic hybrid, with Largan as the main lens and Sunny Optical as the molded glass.

9. Battery: The total capacity of two stainless steel shell batteries (steel shell Xinwei/Lingyi) is expected to be close to 5000mAh. The battery cell is expected to be 3D stacked, exclusively developed by ATL.

A leak claims Apple’s first foldable iPhone will use an unusually short, wide book-style design—closer to a mini-tablet when open—with reported dimensions of 120.6×83.8mm folded, 167.6×120.6mm unfolded, and just 4.8mm thick when open. The device, possibly the “iPhone Fold,” could debut next year but may not reach market until 2027.

The design and dimensions of Apple’s very first foldable smartphone have just leaked out. The information comes from a German site, iphone-ticker, and it should be taken with a grain of salt. However, this design is very interesting, and it does make sense.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone could go against the grain

In the image below, you can see sketches of the phone, which show it from various angles. In it, the dimensions of the phone are also mentioned. You’ll immediately notice that this design goes against the grain.

First iPhone foldable alleged sketches

These sketches show us a phone that is rather short, but wider than you’d expect. My mind immediately went to the OPPO Find N and OPPO Find N2, two book-style foldables that had a different idea of a book-style foldable. OPPO unfortunately stepped away from this patch, but that’s where my mind went.

Those two foldables were considerably shorter than foldables these days, but the iPhone design we’re seeing here is even more different. When folded, the phone is notably wider than OPPO’s offerings were.

I, for one, think this is a great idea. Why? Well, for one, you won’t have to deal with an overly tall phone when folded, and it will actually feel like a more compact device to use, despite the added width.

There are several benefits to this design, and it makes sense

There are way more benefits to this when the phone is unfolded. Why? Well, you’re getting a more landscape orientation, which is great for consuming videos. When you flip it to a vertical position, you essentially get a larger regular phone in your hand.
Book-style foldables, these days, are almost squares when unfolded. This phone wouldn’t be, not even close. With that out of the way, let’s talk about the specific dimensions that these sketches share.

When folded, this phone is 120.6mm tall and 83.8mm wide. What about its thickness? Well, it is said it’s only 9.6mm thick, which, if true, is great considering the overall footprint. The small screen has a diagonal of 139.4mm, and the resolution mentioned is 2088 x 1422 pixels.

When unfolded, it looks like a smaller iPad Mini

When unfolded, this thing basically ends up looking like a smaller iPad Mini. The dimensions mentioned are 167.6 x 120.6mm, and a screen area of 7.76 inches. The resolution of the inner display is said to be 2713 x 1920 pixels.

What about its thickness when opened? Well, it’s allegedly only 4.8mm thick, without the camera bump.

If you take a look at the image below, you’ll see a visual representation of this sketch. This does give us the Google Pixel Fold (original one) vibes, to a degree, mainly due to the camera bar on the back.

The so-called iPhone Fold is expected to arrive next year

I, for one, am truly hoping this leak is accurate, even though you should really take it with a grain of salt, as already mentioned. Apple’s first foldable iPhone, rumored as the iPhone Fold, is expected to launch next year. It may not become available until 2027, though.
