Hi guys. I have this iPhone hotspot problem. The connection seems to drop by itself after some time.

purpose: to use iPhone 4s as a hotspot.

Situation
1) using iPhone 6s to pair, connection will drop by itself after about 5 minutes.
2) use phone Samsung android to pair, no problems maintaining connection.
3) use Samsung phone as hotspot, no issues to pair iPhone 4s and 6s. Connection stays after 5 mins.

Seems that I can't use my iPhone as a hotspot.

For iPhones, if they detect there isn't any activity on the hotspot, they will auto shut off and need to re-enable.

I believe for iPhones, sometimes they 'shut off' their connectivity to save on battery power? (Just a personal thought)

For android phones, they will keep turning on thus, we can always and still connect vice versa.

all iOS have this feature to end personal hotspot after few minutes with no connection to save battery. and is indeed annoying.

your option:
1. use andriod for hotspot (I use this when I travel)
2. jailbreak your phone and install App that allows continuous hotspot.

Thanks for your replies. It's annoying to pay so much for a phone yet it's working like this.

Check out on using 'continuity' hotspot.
It will auto turn on hotspot but devices need to be using same iCloud account.

:D

It's really useful for that feature! Just make sure that both devices' Bluetooth are turned on and it only works for iOS devices with Bluetooth 4.0 onwards.

However, it will still sometimes auto disconnect but now you can just go to the Wi-Fi settings and you will see a connection for your iPhone/iPad and it's 3G/4G connectivity. No need to start up the hotspot on the device.
