Iphone unable to restore fully from backup

Need help from the iphone gurus out there.

Basically I've got a friend who is using iphone 4 for a long time and her iOS was still the old version, which meant that she had not been updating or backing up her phone for years. However she decided to update to the current iOS last few days. She did a backup of her phone which took hours which I would presume so due to the long time since she updated. After the back up was completed, iTunes showed her last back up date to be as of yesterday, which was 7October. However after she updated her OS and restored from her back up, the restoration of her phone was only until 19 Sept. As such, she did not managed to restore some of the photos n stuffs she stored on her phone after 19 Sept.

Any gurus can advise on how to get back her data that was lost during restoration?

when u restore, u get to choose e backup. perhaps she didn't choose e backup from e correct date?

She chose the correct back up date however the sync is only done till 19 Sept. Is there any way to retrieve back the photos lost along the way?

along the way, did she ever have iCloud Photo Stream on?

there r software that can retrieve photos from e iTunes backup file.
