Which movement pattern results in bumper sensor not recognised? Have u run through the built in diagnostics to determine what's at fault?

alanseah said:
O ya anyone got to repair roomba before? Cause my roomba go crazy after using it for 3 months plus...

My roomba will move around as normal and when it hit one of the movement pattern the front bumper will not function and the roomba will just go straight and hit anything on it way or even just hit the wall and continue keep moving or even ignore the V-wall.

This problem keep happening on just 1 kind of pattern movement. For other movement pattern the front bumper will work as it is and roomba will change direction when it hit something.

I almost going crazy about this issues and I try asking GKrobot and they told me it should be the mainboard spoil and the quote they give me is way too costly almost half the price of the roomba not worth it to repair.

Then I search around and found roombaexchange which provide instruction on how to diagnose the roomba and also how to strip it apart. So tonite I will go through the diagnose and found out which part if faulty to be sure and then part the roomba part from roombaexhange and change the parts myself which will only cost me 100plus including shippment fees.

This is the problem when we lump too many discussions into a single thread ! :s22:

To answer yr Qs:

1) Sage & Discovery dont do scheduling by default. You have to buy a scheduling remote to do scheduling. Only the Roomba Scheduler supports scheduling right out of the box.

2) The side brush will sweep the corners, the vacuum cant reach corners though. Yes, it will go around legs of tables and chairs.

3) Somewhat noisy but not as noisy as an ordinary vacuum cleaner.

4) It depends on how naughty and brave yr cats are... who knows yr cats may become toys for Roomba instead =:p

5) How do u define best?? For local, its either JA or GK. Else, place yr order from overseas.

6) Demo from GK? Get their contact fr GK website and email/call them.

sorry got tired of reading thru since page 1 , i have a couple of questions i hope some one can help me with ...

1)the difference betweeen sage and discovery is the ability to do scheduling ?
2) does it vaccum corners and legs of tables ?
3)is it noisy ?
4)i have cats at home ...will it be their toy ? (the reason why i wanna get one is they shed alot)
5)is GKrobots the best place to get one ?
6)how am i able to get a demo set from them ?

thanks in advance

IMO, I would rather have the extended battery capable of 2.5 cycles than the charging base. The Scooba 5800 comes with a std battery lasting only slightly over 1 cycle.
But $199.99 + APS battery $69.99 = $269.98,

much cheaper than scooba 350 leh, then got 2 batteries also. :s22:

Mosmos, what i meant was, for US$199, instead of throwing in an additional charging base, i would prefer they offer the APS battery instead. :)

In anycase, i think US$199 was not the cheapest, there's a brief period where the 5800 was available for US$187 at Amazon (yep, its a new non-remanufactured one!).

The std battery isnt exactly useful unless u only need to clean 1 room. 2 cycles is just abt the max i can tolerate... unless u have lots of time.. else u need 1 more Scooba!!! :s22: So the APS battery is just ideal

As for comparison with the 350 or 3XX series, there were supposedly internal improvements made compared to the 5800. I believe a better pump was one of the feature. Besides, if u look hard enough :s7: , u may find 350s available for a very attractive price.

Wah, at $187? Really tempted to get another one! :s22:

But getting a free battery may not be so good if using vpost. :(

Yah, 3xx series is really better. Floor not so wet, quieter and slightly faster. But their prices a bit too far off than 5800. Hope that prices will dropped soon.

One more Scooba ??!!! That'll be 3 Scoobas... whoa u intend to build a team of Scoobas... i'm sure yr floors will be sparkling clean, including yr kitchen, bathrooms, etc. etc.! :D

Actually, if u ship the battery along with a Scooba, it will not make much of a diff if the outer package is big enough to stuff the additional battery inside, since the volumetric weight is already so high. So by far, try to use USPS instead.

Yeah, the prices of the 3XX series is not encouraging... but at least it still beats getting one locally :s27:

my roomba today the right wheel not function properly anymore..think the motor should had burn.

Cause yesterday done the diagnose and found that when it come to reverse test my right wheel is not functioning and base on the diagnose it mention it is beyond repair and better go to get a new one.

really waste $$... use for not even half a year and up lorry.

I ever think of spending it back to USA for repair but the cost of shipping will cost as high as 300 (go and back) end up getting a new one better.

So now thinking of buying the roomba 5xx series but can we buy direct from irobot USA? Cause I think they dont accept sg credit card.

Yah, not worth to send back for repairs, delivery cost so much.

SG$300 can buy a new discovery at woot.com including vpost delivery if you can wait for another promo from them.

For 5xx series, you can buy direct from store.irobot.com using google checkout with sg credit cards. But the 20% discount code already expired, only left 10% discount.

icic so google checkout will work for irobot. Ok then will have to wait for the 20% discount to happen again then I go buy buy buy.....for now have to live without the robot and sweep the floor manually.

From Amazon you just need to search for scooba 380 but I believe Amazon is currently not selling this model cause me also dont a search not long and fail to find this model.

Anyway you just need to purchase and pay by your credit card and of coz the address and name should follow what the vpostusa given you will do.

For vpost side you just need to register with them if you dont have and they will give you a vpostusa name and address. So whenever you order something from usa and want to use vpost you just need to give then your vpostusa info will do.

Then you email your recepit to vpost and vpost will match your stuff once they receive it and then inform you to pay for the shippment fess and GST if any. And then you just wait for the things to arrive at your house will do.

So far, I am happy with the Roomba. The cleaning power is akin to you using a vacuum. However, you still have to mop the floor after vacuuming it. That's why I intend to get the Scooba as well.

In fact, the Scooba is on it's way over. Now still with VPost in the US. Probably will receive it next week?
sorry am new in this. Y must get both Romba and Sooba since the Sooba alone can clean and mop the floor? Pls enlighten me, tks.

Pls refer to earlier discussions, this has been mentioned b4. Briefly, Scooba only picks up fine dust/dirt/hair. If u have larger particles like crumbs, rice, etc. etc, u need a Roomba which is essentially a sweeper + vacuum.

:s22: I am not very sure how long they will take to deliver to the hotel.

My past experience that they might take up to a wk or 2 to reach to vpostusa. Better don't buy online if you are not staying there for a long time.

For USA stores selling irobot products, eg. Target, you can see the below link for more details,
http://www.roombareview.com/chat/viewtopic.php?t=5&start=320

The only discount code left for irobot store now, 10% is loy10irbt.

irobot store only deliver within USA, so no choice, have to use vpostusa or comgateway. I am not sure abt amazon. :o

mosmos, yr Scooba 380 comes with a grey charging base right? Is the trickle charging problem resolved for this new charging base? Can u leave yr battery in it beyond the fast charging time w/o damage?

For Amazon, delivery is product dependant. For iRobot products, it wont ship ex-USA. Some other products can be shipped directly to Sg though.

:o Yah, it's included.

I am not sure abt the trickle charge problem. I don't dare to leave it ON for 24hr, the newstar transformer is always quite hot.

I have use a timer plug connecting to the charger. After 3.5hr will auto switch off power supply. :s7:
