that will make the robot very big lo. i wonder...

now roomba and scooba already pretty heavy liao.

A wet/dry handheld vacuum will do the job better.

You have to confine it using virtual wall there and do a normal cleaning, internal drying mode will do a better job but only last 5 mins each time you start it.

I would also agree that a handheld or a cloth will suits the job better

Even irobot website doesn't sell the replacement batt at USD 30...and you need to consider alot of factors like the the capacity of the batteries,the shipping charges and how urgent do u need the batt.

I bought my Roomba from eBay. Of course I would compare it with eBay since he pointed me to an eBay listing.

Seriously I do not think his price is expensive as you have to factor in the US$15 shipping and it will comes to around US$50+ for a equilavent 3300 mAh NiMH battery. You could be looking at a 2200 NiCd although it is the same in yellow packaging. Credit card exchange rates are also 1-3% more.

Our price for certain items are even cheaper than what iRobot is selling. Furthermore you will get some form of product assurance should the item fail to work. I do replace the battery if it fail to live up to expection and he also does cells replacement so for a $10-$20 extra compared to US site, I think it is still reasonable.

S$120 is ridiculously cheap for Li-on.

Some US hobbyist build Li-on from parallel+series handphone batteries. I've once opened up a Li-on Scooba battery from US, each handphone battery is supposed to have it's own PCB to prevent overcharge/discharge, but I could still see most cells were swollen = not a good sign.

Li-on must be handle with extreme care cos Li is a highly reactive metal when in contact with water. Plus when parallel charging, u better pray hard that the PCB is reliable & don't fail for no reason.
We learn in school that electrical energy chooses the easiest path, so when cells are parallel, electrical current will surge to the "easiest" cell, and without a reliable PCB, the "easiest" cell will be overcharged.

I personally question the choice of using handphone battery cos the sheer physical size doesn't permit high current drain. Instead iRobot Li-on should be built using larger cylindrical Li-on cells. But due to cost factor, handphone batteries are probably cheaper & more readily available.

BTW, Li-on have typical shelf-life of ~3 yrs. So better use them within their "expiry date".

Voltage Convertor needs to be reliable brand & have rating at least 80W.
Cheapo low wattage convertor will either fry within 1-2 hrs, trip the house, damage Roomba 110V charger by causing the capacitor inside to burst open splashing toxic vapour all over.

Voltage Convertor also waste more electricity cause they're obviously not 100% efficient in the conversion.
Plus the setting may sometimes be confusing, resulting in wrong setting & instant blow.
