Hi kenloonglow,

As promised, here's my little personal review of Neato XV-11 robotic vacuum.

PACKING:
Neato is well packed in the box with room on all 4 sides of the box. Amazon placed the Neato vacuum in a much bigger box resulting in higher shipment cost for me from the US. I strongly suggest repacking if this option is available to you.

INSIDE THE BOX:
Neato XV-11
Power adapter that supports 100-240v. So you do not need modification.
A spare filter
User manual
Quick user guide

BUILT QUALITY:
Neato is much heavier that I tought it would be. The built quality is very good and very sturdy. You can feel the built quality the moment you hold onto it.

It is dark green colour. Something like the colour of a tank!

USING NEATO:
Charging time is between 2-3 hours. The LED status light tells you what is the current battery load.

Solid green = fully charged
Blinking green = charging but Neato can be used
Blinking orange = charging and Neato can't be used
Solid orange = error light & check Neato's LCD for error message.

A day before Neato arrived, I vacuum my unit using conventional Philips bagless. vacuum. I did this intentionally just to see how much dirt can Neato picks up even after I've vacuum the apartment.

To my surprised, Neato picked up a lot of dirt! Here's a photo that shows the amount of dirt Neato pickup after cleaning my apartment.

dbbd68e5.jpg

The first run took about 45 mins to vacuum my unit which consists of 2 bedroom and living room. Total area is about 800sf. I reckon the second run will be faster because Neato would have learnt the layout of the unit.

The noise is on the high side and just slightly less noisy than conventional vacuum.

CLEANING:
Neato's dirt bin is located on top of the unit. So, removing it is very easy. It is very easy to clear the bid too. Just tip the bin and let the dirt out. The filter is washable with tap water.

Please feel free to ask question.

Cheers

what's the price like? Available from SG? replacements like battery/filter/brushes get from where?

@u4ria2008,

Thanks for sharing with us your review of the Neato. One Qs, how close does Neato gets to the wall and edges? Without a side brush, any problems with dirt built up along the edges?

Wow, great effort on this review!
That's a lot of junk shown in ur photo even after u've manual vacuumed.

Does Neato store floor layout in memory even after job complete, or fresh mapping each time?

Did ur Neato return to charge cos job done, or battery flat? Cos I know it'll resume where it left off if can't complete one shot.
If job done for 800 sq ft in 45 mins, that's quite fast.

Thanks mate.

Yep, it will return to its charging base. It will store the floor layout because when I ran it the next morning Neato heads straight to the first room, finish the room then only he moves to another room.

After the first run it still has half the battery power.

Hi thewiseone,

Neato travels very close to the wall. The gap will be maximum 0.5cm. So, if it is an area parallel to the wall I'd say Neato picks up the dirt really well.

One weakness I noticed is that it won't vacuum a corner (the part where 2 walls meet). It will turn with around 10cm distance left.

Forgot to mention, my floor is hard floor. No carpet.

That is the problem with 90 degree corners. Neato is suppose to head straight in with it's rectangular end and it is a strong selling point for them but surprising you mention it does not.

It is suppose to do the perimeter first before cleaning the whole area. Does it do that turn even with the perimeter cleaning mode?

Thanks for the info u4ria2008. Now i got my Qs!!! :D

1) How long have u been using Neato? Any problems so far? Did u encounter issues raised in Roomba review forum like RPS error, clean brush error, etc.?

2) Have u ever used a Roomba? If so, is Neato better in picking up dirt from your hard flooring?

3) Do u have to empty your bin after every run (1st run excluded since its obvious it has picked up LOTS of stuff!). :s22:

Hi Juboo,

Yes, it does perimeter cleaning. After a couple of runs, so far that's what I saw. It will do the turn during perimeter cleaning.

Hi thewiseone,

My answers to your questions below

1) How long have u been using Neato? Any problems so far? Did u encounter issues raised in Roomba review forum like RPS error, clean brush error, etc.?

I received my Neato on Sunday. So, it is very new. I've made 2 cleaning runs so far so I can't comment on this much. From what I read in other reviews, other users say that even after a month use the brush and bottom section of Neato is still like brand new.

2) Have u ever used a Roomba? If so, is Neato better in picking up dirt from your hard flooring?

No, I've not used Roomba before. This is my first robotic vacuum

3) Do u have to empty your bin after every run (1st run excluded since its obvious it has picked up LOTS of stuff!).

Neato robotics recommends that the bin to be cleared after every run to achieve maximum performance. It takes less than 1 minute to clean it. So I won't be too concern with this. Personally, I will clean it after every cycle because the filter can catch a lot of dust as you can see from my picture.

Hi,

I bought it from Amazon.com. You can use either borderlinx, vpost or comgateway to arrange for delivery to Singapore.

Cheers

It takes 2-3 days for Amazon to deliver to US address if you use their Prime delivery. A further 6-8 days from US to Singapore using DHL.

Based on USD399 selling price you will definitely need to incur GST as it will be more than S$400. Unless the vendor can declare the item at USD250 or lower.
