LG Singapore is really a joke! I see that they gave the round about as well. U can visit Harvey Norman, Besk Denki, Courts, etc. and i can assure u no one has a clue about the LG Roboking or Hombot. Providing them with the exact model no. is of no help as well, since searching through their records turned up nothing. The staff has never heard of a robotic vacuum cleaner from LG. Samsung YES, but not the LG. :s27: LG Singapore must be selling the 5th gen Roboking through an invisible retailer here or either that, we have both contacted LG Australia by mistake. :s8:

I still have not gotten around to writing a review of the 6.1 gen Roboking (VR6172LVM - VR6174LVM). Somewhat lazy to take pics and do the review. :o However, u can read about my comments posted at Whirlpool forum and at Mrdeus Blog.

If the 5902LVM is available in Singapore, i'd have bought one instead since it comes with a local warranty for the added peace of mind. That said, there are some improvements in the VR6172LVM - VR6174LVM models that are not found in 5902LVM:

1) Quieter 48db vs 50db noise level
2) Ability to detect obstacles as small as 1cm in width
3) Ability to detect obstacles above the bot as the sensors are able to sense upwards at a 12 degree angle.
4) Faster
5) Self diagnostics feature

If u want to buy this 6.1 gen Roboking, u can either:

1) Make a trip to South Korea and get one back.

2) Buy it from Ebay. I bought mine from this Ebay Korean seller called siddha_trading. I have recommended a few forum friends to him and they've also bought a unit from him. He's trustworthy and so far, pretty quick in responding. Mrdeus also bought his 6th gen Roboking from the same seller and his unit is almost a year old with no breakdown issues. ;) Ray Smith from Roomba Review has a 6th gen Roboking which is still working fine today (also about a year old).

There are basically 3 colours for this model: red, purple and blue. I think the red looks best, though purple is nice too but i was told that its a little more expensive (for whatever reasons!). I believe u'll be making the right choice in getting the LG Roboking.

hi, thewiseone

Saw yr new robot and am tempted by it. Searched thru internet for info & reviews and got tempted further, especially the comparison videos on youtube.

Saw that local LG site has the Hom Bot VR5902LVM, which should be older than your VR6173LVM. Tried calling LG SG but they asked me to ask the bigger stores, which i did not get good response. Is there really no chance of getting it through official channels in SG?

On some websites, it seems that the specs for VR5902LVM and VR6173LVM are almost identical except for the lower noise and battery time. Was the VR5902LVM in your consideration, taking into account that they are more widely sold and discussed in Australian markets.

Sorry to bore you with questions, but I am also eager awaiting your review. Mind pointing out where did you get yr VR6173? Have owned a Roomba 560 before, but this LG roboking seems much superior, in terms of cleaning, maintenance and everything else. And I dig the red color.

Yes, hard to get rid of ... :(

Yeah, so much so that I just leave it alone...
Btw, do you air dry the insides of your scooba after each run?

For bros who add cleaning agents like kiwi kleen(?), do you also get the black mold?

I leave it to dry in the toilet ... I just ignore the black mold. Try using a bit of vinegar w water on yr next run, might help. ;)

US occasionally got sales - e.g. woot.com deal of the day.
After including shipping charges, it still add up to substantial savings compared to buying one locally.

Downside obviously is warranty - so advisable to buy brands like iRobot (and Neato to some extent?), whereby there are a couple of bros here with superb knowledge and maintenance expertise, as well as readily available spares.

Hi the wiseone,

I have recently placed an order from siddha_trading too. May I know how you pay for the GST occurred due to the price being over $400.

Thanks.

If u are interested in taking a look at the LG Roboking/Hombot in action, u can find it at Courts Megastore 50 Tampines North Drive 2 level 3. There's a demo booth over there. The bad news though, its no longer for sale. There's just one new unit and a demo unit over there. :(
