Currently we have a 4S HDB (85sqm) and I do need a simple robot vacuum cleaner, we do not have any pets.

1) I notice some forummer mention about hair problem, how do you consider dropping lots of hair ? for me it seems ok to do the sweeping once a week.

2) I notice some people are selling "Remanufactured" vacuum cleaner. Does it mean it's refurnished ?

3) Does arrangement of the furniture affect the way it cleans ?

4) Is the robot vacuum able to clean below the sofa and bed ? I think I have a 8cm gap for both bed and sofa

5) There's a small step down between my hall and kitchen so are most robot vacuum able to detect it ?

Hi, Most of the Robot vacuum cleaners would have no problem cleaning tiles and laminated flooring. For a 3000sqft home, you would require a robot cleaner that is able to clean systematically, mapping your home as it cleans. I would recommend the 2012 Iclebo Arte ($749) or Lg Roboking 6142 ($799) Both these models would navigate systematically and get a better coverage. The Roomba 500 and 700 series would not be able to clean the whole home in one cycle. But if you are planning to carry it from room to room manually then the Roomba is fine.

Hi,

For the size of your home, most Robotic cleaners would do fine. Can consider the Roomba 500 series for a good value model.
1) With regards to hair problem, serious if you constantly see long strands of hair lying on the floor of your home even after sweeping daily. Especially obvious after "you/wife/sister/daughter" have just taken a bath and begin combing hair while walking around the home, dripping water at the same time. Anyway its more obvious on white flooring.
2) Re-manufactured means the set was returned(with or without prior usage) and after repairs or checks is re-sold in the market. Battery lifespan is usually compromised. Autovacstore.com only carries 100% brand new sets. Serial no. would indicate if the set is re manufactured.
3) Movement of robots depends on model, some would navigate systematically and some randomly. Just ensure sufficient space between furniture and should be ok.
4) The slimmest model around is the LG Roboking (89mm) so perhaps you can try raising you furniture slightly with rubber guards or anti slips.
5) Only the LG roboking 6142 and Iclebo arte would detect height of around 1-2cm. The Roomba would fall over the edge if it is a small kerb. Nevertheless, not a real issue. can always block it off with the use of Virtuall walls.
Do read a range of reivews online and I am sure would would make a good choice.

I believe the robot will not clean 3000 sqft of floor area as it is divided into upstairs and downstairs and you might even have steps between the living room and dining room? If so, any robotic cleaner will do a decent job.

1) If you are fine with sweeping once a week that'll mean you are not facing the hair issues like others whom will see tons of hairs on the floor within 1-2 days.

2) Remanufactured/refurbished is very common in USA as the return policy there makes the manufacturer with lots of stock which is use within 1 month. Some are problem free but some could be warranty exchange where iRobot would test/repair and sell them as remanufactured/refurbished. These usually will have some cosmetic issue as it is being used up to 30 days by the consumer or even up to a year for warranty exchange one. Battery is not always old as I've seen some with brand new one in it.

3) The layout definitely plays a part in the way the robot navigates and we should remove things like thin loose wires and rags from the floor before running it.

4) 8cm is too low for the major robotic cleaners in the market.

5) That'll depends on the height of the step. Roomba is able to climb up to a height of 2cm depending on the way it approach it.

Thanks but we are old people who prefer not to carry it room to room manually. I have a pet dog who stay indoor with us. Shed quite alot of fur though.

This won't work lah the side is too big and there'll be too many untouch area unless it dismount itself after climbing the stairs.

Many thanks for your great recommendation for the Iclebo Arte ($749). Anyway, both the Roboking and Arte would ensure complete coverage as they would suspend cleaning, return to charge and return where they left off to continue cleaning. Comparing both, LG roboking seems to move at a faster pace than the Iclebo. Nevertheless good advice would be to read a range of reviews online for comments on performance and durability of the products as important considerations.

Hmm interesting, how much is the Arte selling today? What's the comparison w the preve iCleabo? I seen it in action seems to have a weaker suction compare to Roombas.
