Hi, I'm thinking of getting a robot cleaner to help with some housework.
Problem is, i have laminate flooring. I think I read somewhere that the scooba is not meant for laminate? Are there any other robot cleaners that might do a better job with laminate flooring?
I've been selling iRobot products full-time on eBay since Aug 2008.

Laminate floor is unlike parquet where it is sealed. Laminate is clip-on type and the manufacturer indicates that there should not be water as it might cause delamination. iRobot would definitely not defy whatever the manufacturer says and therefore indicates that it is not recommended.

However we still mop it but of course, the degree of wetness will be different from mop and scooba and some people here had even indicate that they use scooba on laminate floor.

The Scooba may not be a good choice if you are thinking of getting just 1 Robotic cleaner to assist with day to day. I would recommend something that can be scheduled and left to work on its own when you are away or out at work. The Scooba requires you to top up water for use and can't be scheduled and does not return to charge either, and may not be ideal for daily use due to hassle and noise.
If you need a robot cleaner that can vacuum and "wet Wipe"your home daily, can consider the LG Roboking ($858) or Iclebo Arte ($749)
If you are looking for something to do washing and scrubbing of your flooring on a twice weekly, can consider the Scooba, but only if the wetness is suitable for your laminate flooring. If there is a risk of damaging the laminates then better not go for it.
As there is no exact measurement for wetness and what may be deem suitable in some cases may not be okay for you, would gladly arrange for a demonstration and you can determine if it is suitable for your flooring type. :)
Anyway best to read a range of review online and am sure you would make a good choice.

hi there,

if there's marble flooring around the house, and i'd like it to vacuum + mop 3x a week, what would be the best choice?

the roboking seems like a good choice, but i have a few questions :

6142 vs 6262 : difference is only in the exterior (square vs circle) right?

mopping cloth : must we use their proprietary cloth or we can just slot in any microfibre cloth for the job? if it is the former, how long can the cloth last before it needs changing? (e.g. 120m², 3x a week)

how's the lifespan usually like? (any spare parts that need to be changed periodically?)

servicing/repair : i notice on your store, there's no support for LG roboking. so what do we do if it requires repair? need to send back to Korea and have downtime for 1-2months? :s11:

and as stated in post 9140, is there still 1 year extended warranty for these cleaners?

looking urgently for a replacement cos my vacuum cleaner just died.. lol.

Hi,
Getting a Robotic cleaner to replace your existing vacuum is a good choice.
The LG Roboking models would do a good job in vacuuming and "mopping" your home. The Latest LG roboking 6262 ($858) is able to be scheduled as well, unlike the delay timer of the older 6142 model. Several improvements are made in the LG Roboking 6262 model, It senses objects better, is able to climb heights of 1.5cms and it reaches corners better as well. All Robotic CLeaners comes with an extendable local warranty of up to 2 years.

We do Repairs "on the Spot" for the LG roboking Models. You would barely be without the Robot. Do know that getting the Robotic cleaners from other sources may result in delay in repairs and services as there is difficulty in co-coordinating as seller may often be overseas.
Rest assured, We have all original accessories and parts and you can purchase them on the spot during delivery (HEPA filters, Side brushes, Brushes, batteries are all readily available.)

If you are keen on getting one and are undecided between the various models, am sure could always arrange for a demonstration to compare. Would do my utmost to assist. Many thank for the interest. :)

I have bought a Scooba from Woot.com and it has arrived in Singapore.

I read in the forum that I need to buy a Nestar NF-100 since it is a USA model. Can I buy a lower/higher wattage since NF-100 is quite hard to find?

I see that forum recommends using vinegar for cleaning. Is it mixing water with vinegar? If yes, what is the mixing ratio? And what particular brand/type of vinegar to buy?

I don't even think Newstar 100W is safe, it might still overheat & burn, or repeatedly auto-off during charging if Overheat Safety feature kicks in. U ought to get Voltage Convertor of 150W rating to be safe.
Or just arrange with me to have ur 110V Scooba charger converted to Local voltage at small fee.

Besides vinegar, there are lotsa household detergent available at supermarket that are safe to use in Scooba.

Queries pls PM or email me unobliss@yahoo.com

Like Uno said, it is better to modified your charger with me or him rather than using a transformer. I've seen many transformer give way and burnt the charger.

White vinegar is the one iRobot refers to. If I remember correctly, it is either 40 or 60 ml of vinegar per tank of water. Some people might not like the smell of vinegar and you can use a small amount of commercial detergent but do not use anything with that contains BLEACH.

From my user's experience, I think I used a transformer for close to 2 years w/o problems. If you want to use a transformer, do get the right model and I don't remember burning any chargers.

On the contrary, some mod ones do give me more freq problems. Having said that, it is certainly a more clean cut solution and less messy. :)

I went for lunch yesterday and see that Challenger has the last unit of Nestar NF-100 for sale. I bought it at $22.

My next concern is on the cleaning solution for Scooba.....

It's not a problem... Just use vinegar... I've been using vinegar for my scooba since day 1... No problems so far...

I dun even bother measuring... Just agar agar pour in a bit (Maybe around 01 cap full, please dun ask me what type of cap as I just pour in according to what I feel is ok)...

Experiment with it... If you feel it's too much (As you can smell the vinegar after the Scooba is done) just add in lesser the next round...

But it's a great bot man!!!

Just refer these 2 posts regarding Scooba cleaning solution:
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/57282715-post8235.html

$22 for Newstar 100W is cheap. If it has Overheat Safety feature, then should be fine. It might intermittently toggle on/off whenever it gets too hot, so charging time might become longer.

How about the mopping cloth question? Can just use those disposable Kao Magicclean type?

The cloth that came with the Roboking is shaped specifically for their bot & has velcro on it... So it is not possible to use the Magic clean unless you can somehow mount it onto the attachment...

I was also very curious with the mopping cloth but ended up not using it at all cuz I also bought the Scooba...

The Roboking is a great bot for vacuuming but in terms of mopping I really don't think it can do a good job as compared to the Scooba...

The Scooba is a great bot for cleaning the floor cuz it scrubs the floor & really gives it a clean mopped feel. But vacuuming power is not comparable to the Roboking... The Scooba has a very small steel mesh filter & is really not able to vacuum very well, which is why initially I had to clean (I use those sticky rollers) to remove hair & whatever bigger debris from the floor before using the Scooba...

Currently I use the Roboking first then followed by the Scooba for my cleaning...
