Is 128gb mcp enough?

if you don't want to lug around an additional external drive. bump to at least 512

If u asked me with your requirements as such, definitely not enough, at least 256GB as bare minimum.

like what PetPet had said, 512gb is a comfortable capacity to work with.

my last macbook has just 256gb and because i decided to split it into half for bootcamp. 128gb becomes a little difficult to work with because some of the IDE, SDK are huge.

so unless you are comfortable with constantly swapping files in/out of external hdd, go for 512gb.

go for 512gb. Do note that the SSD the new MBP are using is M2 and they cost a bomb even when u purchase in Amazon. So in the long run 512 is gonna serve u better. And also do note that the Ram are also not user upgradeable. They are soldered to the logic board itself...

Coming from a designer myself, you will need upgrade your Ram as well as get the 512GB. thats why from my initial budget of getting a basic 13inch MBP, i had gotten the 15inch 370X model...

Probably you'll find it a bit limiting to work with. I assume you'll be loading Adobe apps, XCode, Android studio etc. My apps total about 25GB with those. If you have VMs for Windows testing or Boot Camp, that's another 20-50GB set aside.

SDXC is going to be much slower than internal SSD.

The MBP does not use a M.2 PCIe SSD. It is a PCIe SSD, but the interface is a custom proprietary one, not the industry standard M.2...

M.2 is just another storage interface, like SATA, but based on PCIe (this removes the bandwidth limitation of SATA)

That means you can't buy them from 3rd party SSD makers like Crucial.

Ahh I see I see....means it's a specialised RAM for Macs...I remembered my old (and dead) 2010 MBP was upgraded with Strontium RAM which was also made for Mac(?).

RAM isn't proprietary

Just that MacBooks after the rMBP(2012) was introduced has theirs soldered to the logic board so you can't upgrade it

Ahh, I tot they are the M2s SSD. Lucky me that I never went ahead to get a lower end model and bought the SSDs off Amazon. Thanks for the correction.

Back to TS. for creative design, I believe u be using illustrator, photoshop. Save a bit more to get the 13inch 512gb and 16gb version. It will last u longer.

All right then, as long as the RAMS are speedy enough for my Photoshop and Lightroom, is good enough. This is my first rMBP (and second MBP) and really impressed with the SSD performance, starting up from Apple logo to login screen is within 10 secs!

Portability.
Or alternatively, have good network connection and connect to a NAS. This way 128gig would be comfortable
