Hi everyone,

Would like to know if 200 Mpbs is enough for the following requirements:

-family of 4
-gadgets include 4 smartphones, 1 desktop, 2 laptops, 2 tablets, 1 tv
-will be using it mainly for web browsing, video streaming (will be subscribing to a vpn provider for my football matches and dramas)
-will be using it once in a while for casual gaming (MMORPG, Dota 2, CS) and torrent

I will be signing up with Singtel as number porting is not supported by ViewQuest yet. Any kind advises are welcome.

Thanks for looking. :)

Their present router can not subscribe to vpn. I suggest you sign up ST unlimited plan and buy their ASUS router which can support subscribe of vpn. I will jump over to Unlimited plan after 21 mths.

What is your current plan ??

Singtel does have 200Mbps plans.

It should be sufficient as long as everyone doesn't stream, game or torrent at the same time .

Hi, thanks a lot for highlighting. I have to think about it again as the unlimited plan cost $20 more. :(

Hi, if 4 of us watching YouTube together should be ok right? I am currently on MyRepublic 100Mbps but will need to wait for the video to load sometimes when most of us are using.

If you need to wait for video to load sometimes with 100Mbps connection, it is not that 100Mbps is not enough, it is your ISP's connection is not good or not sufficient.

So you may only be getting less than 10Mbps to the target server.

However you should not be facing this issue with Youtube, since they have CDN in Singapore.

Hmmm hopefully things will get better after switching to Singtel if not that means maybe either my router or some of my devices wifi card/connection is faulty.

What type of VPN? If those VPN services like VyprVPN, no problem though. I have VyprVPN account.

100Mbit/s would work as long as QoS is done.

Like Gaming most important is latency.

Under heavy load, torrent will be giving the lowest priority while gaming packets will be given highest priority.

Packet queue will always let gaming packet to go first which means gaming packets cut queue and torrent packets will always allow other packets to go first.

For VPN, if you are using it purely for US TV, you can actually signup for a VPS located at US with Tun/TAP enabled, setup with SoftEther VPN Server and you have your own Private USA IP. And the Cost could be very cheap too. Depending on usage pattern. If your usage a Month over VPN is less then 500GB, the cost per month could be as low as $1~1.75 USD.

I am talking about vpn for internet tv use to watch ip tv like watch football. U will need 3rd party firmware for the router but Aztech can not use 3rd party firmware. Your VyprVPN is for your use on a computer so no problem.

I ever ask ST this question about why video never play immediately after clicking. Their answer is that site server connection is slow so causing that a few seconds delay when streaming some sites. Not Singtel slow.
