Is Cat 5e Lan cable still relevant?

my smart Tv wifi kaput. So got to install lan cable. My speed is 1Gpbs and distance is 13m fr router. Can I still use Cat5e cable? Tks.

I using 30 metre Cat 5e for my 1gbps.
No issues for me on Speedtest.

If buying new cable, I would just go for cat6, don't think you save a lot by going cat5e.

But if already have existing 5e cable, definitely more than okay for short run.

5e at that short distance is still fine. Btw your tv wont be able to saturate the entire bandwidth of 1Gbps. Tv the most even streaming of 4k contents are not demanding these days. At most pulling max 200Mbps at any given one point of time.

if you are laying balanced cat 5E cables, then go ahead. if you are getting new cables, get CAT 6. it is not much more.

I don't see anything irrelevant with with Cat 5e LAN cable. They are not the fastest in the market now, but still can transfer date up to Gigabit speed, which is going to be enough for most users. Especially for your use case to connect this to your Smart TV, it is highly unlikely it will be anywhere close to saturating the bandwidth.

Yes, cat5e is more than enough for 1Gbps or even 2.5Gbps up to 100m. Unless you live in an extremely huge house, it is unlikely that you will hit this 100m limit.

However, cat5e cannot support 10Gbps. You need cat6.

Cat5e and cat6 are very similar in terms of price today. No reason to go for cat5e anymore (unless you need lots of cables and cost is a concern).

yup even Cat 7 Cat 8 cable are affordable nowadays.
it's either re-use your existing cables or backside itchy go buy new cables.

Cat5e still works fine for 1Gbps.
Unless your router and PC Lan Port both supports 10Gbps.

cat5e and cat6 have the same 100m distance limit for 1Gbps/2.5Gbps.
