Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has experience CIMB Clicks service being down for the past 2 days. I've been unable to access my accounts either via the website or the mobile app. It often shows a server error message, or the furthest I've managed to go is to login via the website, authenticate via 2FA push notification, then get the following error subsequently.

We are unable to process your transaction request. Please try again or contact CIMB At-Your-Service at (+65) 6333 7777, Mon to Sun, between 9am and 7pm.

This is followed by another internal server error.

I've also tried calling all listed CIMB hotlines and the call gets ended immediately.

It's down for the last 2 days during office hours and came back online after office hours some how. Check the complaints on their FB page.

One of the users, Li Xingsheng (36 years old), said in an interview that he had been trying to log in to CIMB Internet Banking three days ago and finally successfully logged in at about 11 o'clock this morning.

"I will send money to my Malaysian account every month, so after successfully logging in, I will do the transfer operation as usual. Everything seems to be going well, but at the last step, the system shows an error again, so I don’t know. Where did his money go."

Li Xingsheng revealed that after several attempts, he finally managed to contact the bank operator at about 12:30 noon.

"Although I dialed the hotline, the operator said that my money is not in my Singapore account or my Malaysian account. Due to a system failure, they can't do anything now, and they don't know when the system will be restored.

Better don't do any transactions for the time being ...

A lot of Msian working in Spore has CIMB SG and CIMB MY as the online conversion rate from SGD to MYR is very competitive rivaling money changers.

Hence it hit this group of ppl hard. Think why bank with only 1 ATM in Spore still got many customers? All go for their online deposit and withdrawal and transfer and credit card.

Wonder if their credit cards are still working?
They are. The problem seems to be slowdowns and timeouts (not quite a complete outage) in their Internet and mobile banking channels. My suggestion if you can poke through is to make one transfer to yourself (to another bank account) via FAST to handle day to day ad hoc payment needs for the next few days. Automatic GIRO payments seem to be fine, so I wouldn't worry much about them.

Able to log in now, but timed out immediately upon an outgoing FAST transfer. Seems like the money is just locked in the accounts now.

Just transferred everything out
Yeah, well, I wouldn't do that. If you want to worry about amounts above SDIC coverage (i.e. above S$75,000), OK, I guess you could make that argument. But that's true of every bank. What happens now when the bank you transferred these funds to has its own outage? Answer: You'll have the same problem, maybe worse. "Out of the frying pan, into the fire."

Like I wrote, if you're concerned about ad hoc payments coming up within the next week or so, transfer enough to yourself to take care of that. Your automatic GIROs are still being processed, and your CIMB credit cards still work. Paper checks work, and your payroll deposits are still happening. CIMB just seems to be having channel problems with Internet and mobile banking, and we saw that same basic problem with DBS a few weeks ago. Not good, and I hope they fix it very soon. But you solve this problem by having two accounts (ideally with zero minimum balance or at least low minimum balance requirements) and keeping a week or two worth of day to day ad hoc payment funds in each. These two accounts with two different banks can be, for example, one for your spouse and another for you -- they don't both have to be yours.

@BBCWatcher good points. Admittedly it was a knee jerk reaction. SDIC coverage notwithstanding at that moment I considered that in comparison with the systemically important banks CIMB is not locally incorporated and that tilted my decision to transfer the CIMB funds to a locally incorporated bank instead.

Yeah, and that locally incorporated bank...could have a catastrophic ransomware attack starting 5 minutes from now. Then you're really stuck for a while. It's unlikely but possible.

Didn't we just see DBS having exactly the same problem from a bank customer point of view? Actually, DBS's outage was worse. Nobody was getting into DBS's Internet or mobile banking during that incident. With CIMB right now some mobile and Internet transactions are getting through. You achieve greater financial safety by having a bit of institutional diversity. Two is better than one, and two is probably enough. So how about getting back to two, below SDIC limits if you'd like?

Let me expand on this basic point a little more. If you carry this logic forward a very little bit, it's reasonable to hold some amount of wealth "onshore" (in Singapore in this case) and some amount of wealth "offshore." Always with a good quality custodian or at least a high quality backer such as a high quality sovereign's deposit insurance if it's a bank deposit. Always legally, with no nonsense.

BBCWatcher is a wise man. I have read his posts and it is hard to disagree with his reasoning.

Just 1 thing about CIMB sg I am worried about is their inconsistency. Customer service sometimes on the ball sometimes wait a week. Their email notifications is another. Some account activity emails are sent out unencrypted. Sometimes these emails are also delayed which defeats the security purpose of having notification enabled.
