my 80 year old dad was encouraged to sign up for an AI course by the salesperson. i was like... huh??

i only found out because he wanted to check the venue and needed help checking his email. i asked, if you don't know where your email app is, how did you register? he said the salesperson did everything for him.

the email included that a laptop is required for the course. firstly, he did not know it was a requirement. secondly, he does not have a laptop or know how to use one.

i believe the salesperson had omitted these crucial information just to get the sale. took over his phone to register on his behalf knowing that he doesn't even know how to use it.

told him it's all sponsored by the government and he just needs to pay $10 for admin charges.

All sponsored by the government? I don’t remember there is 100% subsidy. You can check how much is the actual cost.

Do these skills future credit help in getting employment? There are so many resources on internet to learn anything under the sky. Dunno the real purpose of these courses. If the monies for these course providers come from increased in gst and any other form of taxes, then I think it is a waste of resources imo

If it is 100% subsidies as mentioned by TS, it can help to kill time for the elderly.

After all, the $800 for the course is fully paid by government. The attendee just need to spend time there for the free meals.

let me tell you a story.... one day a 79yo ah ma walk into a local bank branch... then this sim grad banker with curry pok hair and hermes belt approach her and convince her to buy an ilp...

they will claim 8k grant from govt. for a 10k commercial website.
then client pay them remainder 2k which could be done much cheaper and better at fiverr.

they earn taxpayer's money.
