Sakura season is over so should be less crowded/pricey but should avoid their golden week which is in late May iirc.

8/9 days should be very good to cover a lot of Tokyo main areas and also some of the less touristy one. Add in some day trips to nearby tourist attractions, your itinerary will be filled easily.

EDIT: Japan golden week is late Apr to early May

spend as many days as you can afford :s13:

more days, more relax, more places to choose to visit

else, this trip you select the places you wanna go.... then come back and plan to go again next year

Just avoid Golden Week in May. Prices will be higher for accommodation not mention the crowds

Weather should be cooling

I took my kid on a short 5d4n earlier in May this year. It's a pretty nice time, not super peak like say, sakura season, so going to like disneyland and other tourist spots isn't too crowded. The weather is cool, just need to pack a windbreaker and foldable umbrella in the bag for if it rains / is cloudy or windy.

9d8n also I think just right lah, there's plenty of day trips and great 2d1n or 3d2n places nearby if you run out of tokyo things that you're interested in.

I don't mind doing a 5d4n too, since it going to be first time. Good?

I think 5d4n is great actually if you can get good deal on the flights. I flew ZipAir and it was under 1k for me and the kid. Red eye there, got a full 4 1/2 days of sightseeing or whatever, then fly back evening / reach SG around 11pm which is just about right to go home, shower, sleep, n next day go to work or school or etc. would do again.

May is actually a very good time to travel if you don't mind missing cherry/autumn season etc. Just avoid early May due to golden week. Ideally mid-may for cooler weather and least crowded. There is also some festival held in Sensoji shrine in May, hotel price and crowd going to be higher, but its only 2 days.
End of May is starting to become warmer, almost hitting 30s in the afternoon.

For 1st timer. Even 14 days also fine for Tokyo. .u can make day trip to elsewhere if u have enough of Tokyo. such as kamukura , Yokohama, Nikko . Mount Fuji. For outlet shopping . Karuizawa .
