Is my MOBO dying?

Sata ports 2 suddenly can’t detect any drives connected to it. Today previously working port can only work with previous old drive swap around then that port can’t work. Sata cables and power cables all troubleshooted no problem individually.

Is my mobo dying? It’s a ASUS P8Z77-V

- Under BIOS, is the drive detected?
- Try changing a new SATA cable.
Sometimes such issue can be either faulty cable.
- Test your HDD/SSD with Crystaldiskinfo, check it's health.

Wow, that is like a ten year old motherboard, in terms of release date of course. How old is your mobo?

I think you should try a new Sata cable just in case, but need to know how old it is.

Also, how to get notifications for hardwarezone anyway?

The whole config is 10 years old still going strong, my config is in signature. Bought it in sept 2010, when PC themes was still at their tiny store back alley run by only yilong and a Malay guy.

Go to Device Manager - IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, if there is a problem with the controller, there will be an icon there.

You can also right-click on the various Standard SATA AHCI Controller to check the "Properties" i.e. whether working.

Yap. I still have a 80386 pc running as NAS. Just need Gb Ethernet card. Everything works fine.

Okay, here are a few things that I believe can help. You might need to update your firmware. Also have a look at your computer, if you have other unused SATA ports, use that instead.

Download Booster is a good software to find the firmware updates needed automatically.

A decade old is a fantastic run. It might be a good time to retire the old girl once and for all.

Ok guys one funny thing is, on windows the drives all appear there. But in the bios only the ssd and 2 drives appear, then boot into windows all the drives there. I have bought new cables and changed. Still this funny problem

Yes u are right. I have an even older rig. First generation core2duo bought in 2006. Still rmb when it landed in Sg mobo and cpu $1200 knn.
Still going strong my father is using it for web browsing, Microsoft office, YouTube, Spotify.

My Haswell mobo only has one SATA port working, the system still happily served its role until the RAM stick killed it this year.

When USB ports, PCIE not working, or blue screen, there is a chance the capacitor or capacitors on the motherboard is / are dying. Inspect the motherboard for bloated capacitor.

If choose not to repair, it's time for an upgrade. It's not impossible to repair. Just need soldering and replacement parts.

When USB ports, PCIE not working, or blue screen, there is a chance the capacitor or capacitors on the motherboard is / are dying. Inspect the motherboard for bloated capacitor.
