Read about sinkieland's 2019 experience of this imported monkeypox case......but then it WAS 2019.......it is now 2022

this part is interesting :-
Close contacts were defined as persons who were within 2 meters of the patient for >30 minutes or had physical contact with him or had physical contact with surfaces or materials contaminated by secretions from him from April 30 on (11).

We identified 23 close contacts (19 workshop attendees and 4 hotel staff) and 8 lower risk contacts. Quarantine orders were issued to 22 close contacts on May 9; they were required to remain at home or at a government quarantine facility for the duration of the remaining incubation period (21 days). They were not allowed to come into physical contact with others on the same premises and were monitored for fever and rash >3 times each day through video calls. One close contact, who was well, had left Singapore for Nigeria on May 5; we provided details to the Nigerian International Health Regulations National Focal Point.

Close contacts were offered smallpox vaccination (ACAM2000; Sanofi Pasteur Biologics Co, https://www.sanofi.com) as postexposure prophylaxis. Of the 22 close contacts, 14 received the vaccination, 2 had contraindications, and 6 declined. All vaccinated persons had a scab or ulcer at day 6–8 of review. Side effects included slight fever and mild swelling at the vaccination site; no serious adverse events were reported. Lower risk contacts were placed on phone surveillance twice a day for the remaining incubation period.

A possible case of monkeypox is being investigated in New York City, adding to the case already reported in Massachusetts, health officials said Thursday.

CNA noticed this thread liao.........shooting off many reports today.
this one is the latest:-
Sam Fazeli:
There can be transmission through respiratory droplets, though this has not been studied extensively enough to be sure how efficient it is.

Remember that the problem with SARS-CoV-2 was that it was also transmitted by aerosol, which can hang around in a room for much longer than droplets, which tend to fall to the ground relatively quickly.

But given its mortality rate, even of the less virulent West African strain, and the fact that many younger people born after the 70s do not have immunity to the virus, even low rates of transmission can have dramatic societal impact.

World Health Organization bosses will hold an emergency monkeypox amid growing fears about the international outbreak.

Eleven countries have now detected the tropical virus, which is usually only spotted within Africa.

Germany and Belgium today became the latest nations to declare monkeypox cases, while France and Australia announced patients had tested positive overnight.

Geez.....spreading so fast!

The German case was registered in Bavaria on Thursday, according to the Bundeswehr Institute of Microbiology in Munich. The patient exhibited symptoms of skin lesions, a major characteristic of the disease.

Following the announcement, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said it was only a "matter of time" before monkeypox was discovered in Germany. He expressed confidence that the outbreak could be contained if action is taken quickly.

The French case was detected in a 29-year-old man in the Ile-de-France region, which includes Paris. French health authorities claimed the man had not recently been in a country where the virus had been spreading.
