SIT offers 2 types of degrees
1. SIT-OU (OU = overseas uni) degrees where the graduate will be conferred a degree from the OU itself
2. SIT degrees which is conferred wholly under SIT's name

The recognised option is the 2nd option (SIT degrees)
Because since SIT-OU degrees are conferred under the OU's name, its technically not considered Local Uni anymore

Also whenever employers see these OUs conferred degrees
Next step they will do is to check if its DL or On campus degrees

DL (not recognise) = Degree by a university but not attended at its home campus (examples will be SIM-UOL, MDIS, kaplan etc) (dont know if SIT-OU fits this category)

On campus (recognise) = Degree by a University attended at its home campus (means you fly over to their campus to read their degree)

The thing is since those SIT-OU degrees are only 2/2.5yrs depending on exemptions, employers may think they are DL degrees like private institutions
As when you fly over to their overseas campus to read their degree, its essentially 4yrs

Whereas those SIT-offered degrees are conferred under the name of SIT (which is designated as a Local Uni)
Once Accredited, they will have the same status as NUS NTU (Accredited + local U)

But that cannot be said for those SIT-OU degrees where they can NEVER be considered as Local U since the degrees are conferred under foreign names

Also SIT degrees are harder to go in compared to SIT-OU degrees since there isnt a need for relevant diploma to enter thus more competition to successfully admit?

For SIT's eng courses, only SIE (building services) & SIE (land) and telematics is under SIT's name
The rest is all foreign degrees

Just to add on, SIT-Digipen's SEEMS programme is also a joint engineering degree partially under the SIT name, with some modules being taught by SIT lecturers, while others by DigiPen Singapore lecturers. It also is a four year programme that is undergoing accreditation, with local scholarship opportunities in places like LTA/PSA and so on.

For my side, considered as an advanced dip of sort.

As in u work in a diploma level job, but maybe paid more than a diploma holder. Fall under div 2

Local university considered div 1.

Because you see, let quote NUS/NTU/SMU
When Employers see their degrees
1. Conferred by NUS/NTU/SMU (Local Uni)
2. 4yrs programme (confirmed to be on-campus degrees)

For SIT degrees,
When Employers see their degrees
1. Conferred by SIT (Local Uni)
2. 4yrs programme (confirmed to be on-campus degrees)

(Same as NUS/NTU/SMU)

For SIT-OU degrees,
When Employers see their degrees
1. Conferred by an Overseas Uni (NOT Local Uni)
2. 2.5yrs programme (there might be uncertainty if this is a distant learning (DL) degree as SIM-UOL, kaplan is also around this duration)
3. OIP (Overseas Immersion Programme) module (This is the BIGGEST clue to justify that it is a distant learning (DL) degree as why would graduates have to go OIP if they studied at the home campus?)

SIT is merely the "facilitator" for those Overseas Uni (OU) programme because the the degree is not conferred by SIT AT ALL, also the curriculum is based on the OU as well
Those degrees are basically the same as what SIM-UOL/Kaplan-Murdoch is offering

So ya, moral of the story
1. Get a degree that's conferred by a Local Uni's name
2. Degree must be an on-campus degree to prove the quality of your degrees because most Accredition doesnt recognise distant learning (DL) degrees
(on campus = if you wanna get an Overseas Degree, make sure you fly over to their home campus to read their degree & not a DL degree in somewhere that is outside of their home campus)

To meet this perception of an on-campus degree, Employers usually look at the duration of ur degree in your transcript. Preferably degree to be 4yrs, since most DL degrees are so much shorter in length

Also of course not have funny modules like OIP (overseas immersion programme) which is definitely a telltale sign that its a DL degree

In Short.
-NUS NTU SMU SIT Degrees are recognised
-SIT-OU is not recognise

SUTD's degrees is only 3.25yrs so there might be some doubts also but I am not sure

SIT is considered Div1 just like NUS NTU SMU

SIT-OU like SIM-UOL/kaplan-murdoch is considered Div2 you mean

SIT-hospitality of business is considered as div2...

Not particularly wanting to get into a fight about it but yeah, that's just 1 employer though.

I assume NUS NTU SMU div1 because they are currently all Accredited

SUTD SIT div2? because they are new local Uni and not Accredited yet?

SIT-OU div3?

private institution like SIM div4?

wad crap is this? It depends on your performance and interview skills and not the origin of the degree.

My stat board considers all degree holder div 1 regardless of origin - its only the job interview that even local degrees also have difficulty getting thru

SIM-rmit considered div 2 too. Have at least 4 colleagues with sit degree in div 2 too.

Not very sure why exactly.

I think depends on ministy/sb also.. The more higher tier it is, the more they differentiate. E.g. mti / EDB - extremely Slim chance to get in for sit/unisim/simge, even locals upper second degree minimum.

If for hdb/lta/cpf/pa might not differentiate as much. Div 2 doesn't mean u cannot rise, just whether u do groundwork /policy side.

I am wondering SIT Hospitality Business with Honors launch at which year?

I did saw Div 1 officer holding SIM UOL Business Management with 2nd upper honor.

SIT start their first batch of their own degree around 2014, your co-worker just joined the statboard / civil service this year??

Hmm 2 started this year, the other 2 from sit but I dunno what course.

SIT's pioneer batch of students just graduated a few months ago & thats for Accountancy which is a 3yrs programme

The rest of the programmes that are 4years essentially nobody grad yet

So where do you get the info man...

If its SIT-OU programmes that you are talking about (which is only 2.5yrs) then yes

But I did state those SIT-OU programmes are conferred under the name of the OU. Not by SIT so its technically not an SIT degree?

I think those 4 colleagues you talking about must be holding SIT-OU degrees lol
Those degrees are conferred under the name of the OU so essentially I guess they are placed under the same rank as SIM

since also nobody from SIT except SIT Accountancy have graduated a few months ago, Dont think they are SIT degree students

They are sit holders from sit hospitality for business. (edit - my bad, it is SIT-UNLV)

Anyway, part of the reason could be it is much harder to get in as div1 compared to div2.

In the PSD structure, Division 2 Public Officers are Diploma and A Level Holder.
Division 3 Public Officers are Higher NITEC and below.

If they are posted as Division 2 officers meaning the institution / ministry don't recognize the Degree.

Just wondering, it is parked under TSO scheme or MSO Scheme?
The PSD Unified Scheme for MSO to MX mapping for Diploma holder will direct entry as MX 14.

Are they sitting on official estab or under contract scheme?

I believe its at the same division (only for those SIT degrees) since its conferred by SIT which is a Local U just like NUS/NTU/SMU

Dont go those SIT-OU degrees as they are essentially conferred under the name of the OU (which is a foreign degree already?)

FYI NTU NBS is also 3yrs lol just like SIT's Accountancy & hospitality biz
I'm only interested in electrical/computer engineering degrees.

Will your HR have preference?

a) local universities vs PEIs

b) tier 1 universities (NUS/NTU/SMU) over tier 2 universities (UniSIM/STUD/SIT) or/and tier 3 universities (PEIs) ?

Just sharing that Division 2 officer grade for some organizations are non-graduate scheme which mean ranging from GCE N to Polytechnic Diploma.

SIT-OU BEng (Elect) is not recognized by PEB Sg. So base on Careers@Gov, it should not be recognized for graduate scheme.

SIT-OU BEng (Comp) do not have professional bodies. So base on Careers@Gov, it should be recognized for graduate scheme. However we all know that it depend on the organisations cause some of them don't recognize it.

I'm only interested in electrical/computer engineering degrees.

Its cant be Hospitality Business

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhSX2WWjAoA
Hospitality business is only offered since AY2015/2016

It is a 3yrs degree like NTU NBS

So essentially the pioneer batch will only graduate next yr?

SIT Accountancy started in AY2014/2015
A few months back their pioneer graduates just grad
They are also on a 3yr degree programme

If you say they are Hospitality business students, I believe they are on their IWSP which is a paid internship programme that every SIT course (excluding SIT-OU) must go thru.
But they havent graduate yet lol
