I have a new S7 with NFC transit sim from StarHub. I've installed Ezlink app and was able to topup $20. I tried using it on Bus and mrt both said an error.

I called ezlink they say I need smartwallet. But when I go to play store, it says my S7(Samsung SM-G930F) is not compatible with SmartWallet.

I called StarHub and they say my SmartWallet is active. They don't know anything about the app.

So my question is SmartWallet required for my NFC Transit Sim to work?

Smart wallet is developed for starhub customers to access ezlink information as well as other transaction matters. You don't need that app to work as long as your NFC is turned on. Alternatively you can download ezlink mobile app which functions the same.

The error you got is likely a misalignment of nfc and thus handshake was incomplete. Try to align again at another gantry.

If you repeatedly use the same gantry with the error more than 3 Times, you might need to reset your card with the control station..

I do have the ezlink app and it was the way I was able to topup the $20.

So I went to the nearby mrt station and went to the topup station. I tried different "alignments" but got the same error. Then after a few tries, it stopped detecting my nfc.

So I went to the control station. I gave my phone to the officer but my phone's nfc could not be detected even though it is turned on in the settings and when I open up ezlink app it shows my balance of $20 and status as enabled. They recommended me to go to starhub.

So I did go to starhub and while I was going to get my queue number, a staff came to me and asked what was my problem. I said my nfc sim is not functioning. He replied that there's currently a problem with nfc system. I need to wait for Samsung to update their software. WTF?!?

tell the starhub person to go update his knowledge. s7 is certified to be compatible by ezlinknfc according to the latest update of software. he is just pulling a fast one on you.

i'm using note 5 and its true that occasional error does pop out due to the system glitch itself, just like any ezlink card giving you an error. however, if you have a TPU casing for the phone, you have to remove it cos TPU material will degrade NFC signal no matter how thin your casing is.

Lastly, if you are not involved in samsung pay beta program, set your advanced nfc settings to "SE SIM CARD". If you are in the program, change it to "auto select".

If all things fail, bring your phone to service centre to have a check first, sekali its your phone problem..

My issue is finally resolved. I went back to Starhub and was able to convince the queue guy that it was a sim problem. The customer service took some time to figure it out but he eventually got it.

The nfc sim given to me at CEE show(Suntec) was not a transit sim. It was a grocery sim. That's why it doesn't work in bus and mrt. He changed the sim to the correct one and my life was changed for the better. :D

I hope this helps other people who have the same issue. The mrt staff told there were a couple of guys before me who had the same issue.
