This author has a point, though I am unsure if the personal context he offered as a basis for his fears is sufficiently convincing (I think 10 year-olds these days are much more well learned about the ways of the world compared to the past? Maybe I am wrong.)

Simply put, yes.

spoiled or not. we cant do anything about it. we have to change with time. if your mind lives in the past and still beating your kids with water hose (that's how my grandfather beat my mum last time) over trivial matters then you would probably end up behind bars. your kids would have very low self-esteem and hate you for what you have done.
