CPU+ Mobo : ASROCK H81M-HDS + i5 4460 (318)
RAM: G.SKILL PC 12800/1600MHZ DDR3 CL11 VALUE RAM (8GB) (102)
GPU: ZOTAC GTX 970 4GB TWIN FAN (509)
SSD: ADATA SP900 128GB (99)
HDD: WESTERN.D 1TB BLUE (72)
DVD-RW: SAMSUNG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: FSP AURUM S 500W 80+ GOLD (89)
Case: SHARKOON BD28 (79)
OS: WINDOWS 7 HOME PREM (120)
Monitor: DELL 23" S2340L (235)

Total cost: $1648

Buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, get PC Themes to assemble for you for a fee.

Notes:

1) Unfortunately, since you are unable to make use of the offers from Lazada and that you have a budget of $1600 for both CPU + monitor, I have to make quite a few budgetary cuts to your build. These budgetary cuts aims to reduce the cost of the internal components while minimizing performance loss.

2) The Asrock H81M-HDS is chosen mainly because it is relatively cheap and still supports front panel USB 3.0 ports. You will only lose at most 2 SATA ports and 2 RAM slots as the H81 chipset has 4 SATA ports and 2 RAM slots while the B85 chipset usually has 6 SATA ports and 4 RAM slots.

3) A smaller capacity SSD is chosen as it is cheaper and the smaller SSD is still capable of much faster read speeds than a HDD, which is vital for fast boot times and load speeds. If you still want a Crucial SSD, can consider the MX100 128GB for $110.

4) The FSP Aurum 500W is chosen as the GTX 970 is a relatively power sipping GPU and this system can be safely powered by a 500W PSU. The Aurum is also a relatively cheap 80+ Gold PSU and has a relatively good build quality for a budget PSU, hence this budget PSU will enable you to have a good amount of PSU durability while being able to enjoy 80+ Gold efficiencies on a budget.

5) Any old parts like DVD-drives, RAM and HDD from old computers that can be reused to cut costs?

6) Got any old monitors at home? Can consider using the old monitor first and wait for SITEX at the end of November to buy your monitor at hopefully a greatly discounted price.

Any justification for a SandForce-based SSD recommendation?

Well, the Adata is cheap, and hasn't the firmware used in the Sandforce controller been developed to the point that it is actually reliable and not fail frequently like OCZ's older SSDs? I do not see a good reason why people today should avoid Sandforce based SSDs like the plague.

There's a cheaper and practically faster Marvell-based SanDisk Ultra+ 128GB going for a dollar less.

Any further justification on that?

OK, I understand that Tradepac's pricing is very competitive, so your point stands. (I personally prefer to use PC Themes' prices because I have more confidence in telling people the exact prices of a certain item instead of giving an estimated price because the pricelist says ASK/OFFER.)

What do you think of OCZ's Indilinx Barefoot 3 based Vertex 460? The 120GB version is also selling for $99.

No doubt that it is all stated pricing.

However TP pricelist have however reveal lots of price infos on their list recently. Yes there are some items out there still OFFER/ASK (at the minimal). But this is not the worse as the one before during B85 H87 Z87 days.

Any way SSDs, the closest and cheapest marvell controller you can get is Sandisk. At times there are official promos going on at Fairs or inhouse promos at SLS.

Not saying ADATA isnt great, its doing fine.

So far to come to a conclusion the best SSD to buy right now is mostly from Lazada after the Mastercard Debit or Credit card. Even Amazon also cant beat it.

250/256gb range

Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO 2.5-inch SATA | Lazada Singapore ~ $159 -10% = $143.1

Crucial MX100 256GB SSD | Lazada Singapore ~ $169 - 10% = $152.1

120/128gb range

Crucial MX100 128GB SSD | Lazada Singapore ~ $110 - 10% off = $99

Last time yes sandforce can differ from $20 - $30. Now nope not with lazada mastercard promo.

Yes one may argue, not everyone have mastercard, but come on, most of us have POSB accounts, and they always give us the DBS black card that is VISA. Apart from that if you go and sign a debit card they will give you a Mastercard Multitude from POSB. I don't think it is that hard to get best of both worlds.

Yeah they dropped the $10 original discount since Saturday midnight. Hence you also see my recommendation changing back to $154 Tradepac deal.

Which is better in terms of reliability and value for money?

Samsung EVO no doubt is the fastest SSD in the market in its price segment but its TLC NAND has called for reservations with regards to their questionable endurance and durability which cannot be measured.
